This is perfection. Everything about it is perfection, and just when I think it can't get more perfect you put this out there: "wondering if this was how Russ felt, all those years ago, offering her the choice to abandon him." Perfect.

Oh my god, Chi.

First thing first (and I feel like I owe this to you because I've been such a horrible commenter of yours, since forever):

You're one of my favourite writers. You're right up there with everybody I love. And for me? It's really all about the little details. In this case, "Blue Eyes". I loved that so hard.

I don't know what to say, really. You've kept them so... them and eventhough their journeys ventured down different paths they ultimately still end up where they belong-- they're still better people when they're together.

*sigh*

So much love for this, my friend, so much. ♥

You sure know how to make a girl blush right out of the gate, don't you? Well, shucks. Thank you. So much.

I definitely think that's true -- that they are far better people together than they would be apart. I didn't really change that much, you know? I just tweaked some things, because I think, in the end, it's always going to be those characters that I'm most interested in. I have to keep them Booth and Brennan because otherwise I might as well be writing original fiction with far less interesting characters.

I'm so glad you loved this, I'm so glad you reviewed and just... *twirls you* Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Okay, I love you! You should know that. You can love this, and I'll just do backstrokes in this comment. One of the most gratifying things for me in writing a story that you enjoy is that you notice all these little things that I think about so hard, and you appreciate them. It's a little like feeling like a rockstar.

I love the shifts in their friendship, in their relationship, how she's less bitter, he's less damaged, she's less hidden, they have so much more time already under the bridge to have worked things through so that they ARE able to work together and BE together...

I think you really nailed the point of this AU -- to sort of show how, if things had been even slightly different, they might have had it easier.

I love every bit of this. It follows an excellent internal logic and ios a believable AU that just REALLY works for me. GORGEOUS!

I'm so glad you liked this! *twirls you* Thank you so much!

Oh, Chi, I am so enjoying your words lately and this story is certainly no exception.

*blush* I'm so glad that you like what I'm working so hard on.

The fact that you chose to change one simple thing about Russ's circumstance made all the difference in Brennan's life here. He had the means to take care of her. No, it wasn't an easy life and she didn't magically become Most Likely to Win Miss America-- she was still Temperance Brennan at her core, but there was this confidence in her that our Brennan is missing-- this surety in love.

Absolutely -- I think Russ could have made all of the difference in the world, although given what his circumstances were in canon, you can't blame him for what he did. If he'd had a way to support Temperance, I think things would have been a lot different. Brennan definitely might have a little more faith in the permanence of love.

Really, this is one of the most beautiful, most heartbreaking passages I've read. Ever.
That's quite possibly my favorite part of this story, so thank you for noticing it ( ... )
