... I think Belle's reaction to the Beast giving her an entire library to be pretty damn appropriate, especially for a bookworm whose only previous source of books was a small-town peasant library.
A-Men. As someone who married someone who had a huge bookshelf as well as my own collection just having someone help MAKE our own library into what it currently is, is an extremely romantic gesture to a bookworm like her (and me). God if I was given a library like the one at the Biltmore (which I think the Beast's is reminiscent of) I would be squeeing with delight and extremely in awe myself. That reaction is not at all illogical.
Good essay. People are SO wrong when they think Belle has Stock Syrdome. SO Beast/Prince Adam might be a jerk. But the man who would REALLY be abusive?? Would be Gaston
Adam and Belle both have tempers that they had to learn to control but I don't think was in either of them to restort to blows. Neither of them had thought to manipulate the other Gaston was just crazy and wanted Belle as a trophy.and indeed Gaston would have been abusive.
I really agree with this. Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite Disney films, and I've always liked Belle's and the Beast's relationship. I hate it when people accuse Belle of having Stolkhom Syndrome, or the Beast of being abusive. Because honestly, Gaston seemed to be the abusive one. He kept on harrassing Belle, trying to make her marry him against her will.
