Ewww, girl cooties all over my Star Wars!

Or at least, that's the impression I get from what I'm reading on message boards in response to a certain part of a new Clone Wars interview with Ashley Eckstein, regarding the developing relationship between Ahsoka and Padmé. No, not in that sense, guttery fanboys. ;)

Regarding Ahsoka and Padmé, Ashley says:
"We're all very, very close. Even ( Read more... )

I hate Satine with a passion (she better die this season), but i love the idea of Ashoka and Padme bonding. ^^

As far as Satine goes - I don't think, from what Dave has said, that there's anything further to worry about in the romance with Obi department. That it's over and done with. I'm not too fussed whether she lives or dies. But I do like the idea of another powerful idealist besides Padmé in this war (she can't be the ONLY one) - and, her dying in this war would be a nice bit of foreshadowing for what's to come for Padmé.

Ahsoka and Padmé are definitely of the win.

That it's over and done with It should have never started, but i'm glad to hear we're not going to see more. In the spirit of things i would like to see some more male idealists(besides Bail) and some powerful females in the other playing field.

Satine is completely incidental to the point of my post, so I'm not going to dwell any more on her here. (I am, however, now tempted to do a separate post discussing the controversy her character created.)

That we can agree on.

Word on the Bechdel Test; I think they'll continue to do just fine there. Not that I wouldn't get a chuckle out of one shared eye-rolling "meh, BOYS" moment. Because Obi-Wan and Anakin are idiots a lot of the time, and Padmé and Ahsoka both have ample firsthand knowledge of that.

As for the cooties reaction, haters gonna hate, especially if it has anything to do with Star Wars. They'll put on their big boy undies soon enough.

Oh, you know it. But being given such a hard time for being a SW fan even now, seeing reactions like this still induce a need for some therapeutic venting.

I'm pulling for the three-episode arc where Padmé actually has to go on a mission with them for some reason instead of being kidnapped or something, and Ahsoka's all impressed watching her do her thing and then action chick type conversations ensue. *nods*

Win!

The only reason I look at that forum is to make sure I haven't missed any new preview clips or images. But yeah, my eyes are in danger from getting stuck backwards from all the eye-rolling I do over there. I don't even bother looking at threads about Ahsoka or Padmé.

Ahsoka, and five minutes with Luke, are the only fatherhood experiences Anakin will ever have, and it shouldn't have been that way. And if Padme mentors Ahsoka in a similar way, it will be just as sad.

Agreed.

I'd actually rather duel Count Dooku with a lightsaber than spend an afternoon at a mall.

Given my last experience at a mall, I wholeheartedly concur. I was dragged into a makeup store and spent some of the most excruciating 20 minutes of my life trying on, you guessed it, lipgloss.

And for the love of all that is holy, Anakin Skywalker, take your shirt off one more time.

Damn right! C'mon George, you can do one more nightmare scene! ;)

BTW, I've been meaning to mention: it's good to have you back in SW-dom again. :)

And I've just started Wild Space, and many of my reactions are in line with yours! Man, what a ficcy book.

Thanks! It's good to be back, especially with the Clone Wars making new fans. They can continue this series into eternity if they want.

Seriously need to make some icons, looking at this page is inspiring me. :P

The problem with loud fanboys being stupid is that its easy to think there's more of them than there are. Men who like romance exist--men wrote AoTC the movie and the novelization, "The Courting of Princess Leia", and this: http://community.livejournal.com/padmeanakin/402808.html (the Randy Martinez song). There are men who like this stuff, and even more who at least don't mind it. If there weren't, it wouldn't be in SW at all, let alone keep popping up the way it does ( ... )

You make several excellent points in that first paragraph. :)

we have lots of female characters who can shoot, and not many with her vision and will, which is what makes her so special to me.

Agreed. I've thought before that in a way, she's actually stronger than many of the major characters in RotS: by the end of the movie, all of them - Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padmé - have lost everything. But Padmé retains one thing the others don't: faith that good still exists, even if she herself can't reach it anymore. And her holding on to that faith and passing it on to Luke is what saves everything in the end.

Her idealism is part of what I hope comes through in her scenes with Ahsoka: while Padmé's seen battle, she hasn't experienced it day-to-day on the front lines like Ahsoka. Ahsoka's much more likely to become jaded/cynical by the war, especially with a mentor like Anakin.

It's funny - one of the things I didn't like about the prequels (and ROTJ to an extent) was that I actually don't care for the explosions and space battles so much. I get bored and WANT more character storyline so I guess that makes me the female fan these guys don't like. Meh, whatever. (Obviously I don't care since lately all I see are complaints about older fans anyway ... whatever.)

I just started watching the Clone Wars - only half way through season one, though. I'm curious about Satine though I found I really liked Siri Tachi so I'm a little bit ... eh. IDK. I guess I'll wait and see when I see the episodes to make a commentary.

And why WOULDN'T Ahsoka and Padme bond and become friends? Some guys don't get that the heart of SW IS the characters. Yes, the light sabers, the battles, the explosions and such is all part of it but if you had no characters there would be no story!

I think the prequels actually have more character focus than the OT, but I'll just agree to disagree there. Otherwise, I'm with you: I generally prefer the character stuff too. Hell, I was bored with the AotC Yoda/Dooku fight by the second viewing and I tend to fast-forward through the Battle of Hoth. My favorite action scenes are the ones that reveal something about the characters, like Vader and Luke's final RotJ duel.

I liked Siri too, but given how neutral I am on Obi-Wan himself, I wasn't too fussed either way about a revision to his romantic backstory. If you forced me to choose one love interest for him, I suppose it'd be Siri. I liked the way she got under Obi-Wan's skin, but then, Satine does that too. (The one thing about her that makes me want to eye-roll is the name, but even that I've worked past.)

Yes, the light sabers, the battles, the explosions and such is all part of it but if you had no characters there would be no story!Exactly. Of course, if it were up to the more vocal fanboys, TCW would just be the Jedi ( ... )

Hehee, I actually like that we agree to disagree on things. Most people get all up in arms and OMMG about it as you know. I just never felt the same pull to the characters in the prequels - but that's a personal preference and not right or wrong kind of thing.

I keep wondering if they got the name Satine from Moulin Rouge. It's sort of silly but ...

Mmm, I love Obi-wan. XD All the more for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. ;)

Apparently the name "Satine" was a total coincidence. *SNORT*

And that's fine, you can have Obi-Wan alllll to yourself. ;)
