I think I completely spaced and forgot to send in my membership back in November. So, I guess I'm a bit late to be volunteering. My boss will likely give me tickets for the pre-sale if I ask her (she never uses hers) so there's a good chance I'll be there anyway. Darnit, I knew there was something important I was forgetting to do!
I remember I never volunteered for those when I was working at the library - every year they'd send around the notice asking employees to volunteer, but most of us were like: "This is on a Saturday, right? We already work all day Saturdays anyway, so I'll stick to someplace where I'm getting paid." ;)
I called my Dad on this last night and the moment I said the booksale was coming up, he said he was heading over right then to the news department (he works for OETA) to ask for some passes to the pre-sale. :) I really hope he gets to go this time; he was so bummed about missing it last year.
I totally underestimated the scope of the one I went to last year (my first) - I didn't expect near the amount of people, which made it difficult to get around, but on the other hand it was encouraging seeing so many people crowding around for books. :)
Even though my feet hurt like mad at the end of it all, it was still so worth it - three or four paper sacks filled with books, a year's worth of entertainment, all for less than it would cost for one night at Olive Garden. ;)
cool! Books are like shoes, you can never have enough. i had to put in another shelf in my room for all the books i've picked up at bookfest & then theres the ones in boxes & on the floor. When i get my own house i'm going to have a "library" that is a room that is filled completely with books. what i like about second hand books(apart from saving money) is reading all the notes other people have made.
I'd love to do that too (and definitely plan on it if I get a big enough house) -- I'm going to have to struggle right now to find space to store whatever I get at this sale; 500 square foot apartment doesn't leave a lot of bookshelf space. :P
