VM season 3 and V/L musings

So... am I the only VM watcher on my list who isn't OMGOTP4EVA on Veronica/Logan?

I almost feel like I'm missing something, because everywhere I go it's "OMGYAY!" And, with the exception of the occasional mild "aw" moment, they just leave me... meh. Even when they were snarking and angsting while snogging ( Read more... )

No. I mean, technically, I do not watch VM anymore so, you might be, but if you want to count me then NO you are not alone. I was vaguely WHEEish about Veronica/Logan for a while, but I was over it about three episodes into season two and continued to be over it! A big WHATEVER from me gets V/L!

Hehe. :) Well, that's still longer than I was ever "Whee" over it, which might have been about two seconds in the season 2 finale.

And I've just found out that even Kristen Bell herself isn't OTP over V/L either, so that comforts me somewhat. (Not that I'm particularly angsting over this, but you get what I mean.)

I was always WHEE in the sense that I shipped Veronica with...whoever she liked at the time. So it was the WHEE with which I enjoy canon in general, basically. I never read or wrote a Logan/Veronica fanfic and I don't think I ever even had any Logan/Veronica icons either. So by the accounting of most, I probably wasn't even considered a V/L shipper.

And, yes, Kristen Bell is notoriously MEH about V/L and the VM fandom is notoriously fucking scary with the vitriol they level at her about it.

Yup. Seems to be the case with any actor I've seen who isn't enthusiastic about a so-called canon OTP. All the H/G shippers mauling poor Dan over him thinking Harry would hook up with Luna, or Lauren Graham on Gilmore Girlsover preferring Lorelai/Chris to Lorelai/Luke (and come to think of it I also think Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn't wild about Spuffy)... WHAM! All mauled by fandom. I've never gotten that sort of hatred - so long as the story goes their way, why does it matter what the heck the actor 'ships', so long as they still do their job well?

But then, that sort of thinking is what gets me labeled a heretic, I guess. ;)

Agreed on all points. I would go into a large rant about the VM fandom, but I just can't stomach another one at the moment. Heh. I've noticed as of late that I prefer Logan and Veronica's characters when they are apart rather than together. This is one of those shows in which I am pretty much a multi-shipper *shrugs*

As for the rape storyline, they aren't going for one large mystery over the course of the entire season this year. To keep it easier to follow and new viewer friendly, they decided to have three mysteries this year that take about 6 or 7 episodes to solve before moving onto the next one. That's why it may seem as a weaker plotline than, say, Lilly's murder.

Agreed - I always enjoyed their characters individually. I understand characters are supposed to grow and develop, but I really miss their season 1 counterparts. Do either Logan or Veronica have any real baggage at the moment anymore? Lilly's murder's solved, Duncan's gone, Aaron's dead. Granted, we're only on the third episode, but the only character I've really seen so far dealing with any genuine baggage from the previous season is Dick, of all people.

And thanks for the clarification on the storylines. :)

I *adore* Logan/Veronica. ADORE. It hits all my strange pairing kinks. I loved it best at the end of season 1, of course, when it was all "OMGZ, YOU RAPED ME/NO WAIT YOU DIDN'T/BUT OMG YOU KILLED LILY/OMG, OOPS!"

Because it was angsty and intense and so pretty! (Those three things are harder to find in a pairing than you would think, btw.)

I also like where they're at now, actually trying to have a relationship, which they've never really done before. I'm sort of "meh" on Piz, but find him much more tolerable than Duncan. *nods**nods*

Buuuuttttttt, I don't really consider myself part of VM fandom. Which is very well and good, because I'm certain Lo/Ve shippers are batshit to the point of, uh... well, something very scary. *nods*

That was probably where I found them most interesting, too.

Hee. Yet somehow most of my ships do somehow involve all three of those (I'm such a masochist). Except maybe Harry/Luna, though that can have good angst too.

I simply don't get what's missing from V/L for me. It's the same thing with most of the canon Firefly ships, too - I get why people like them and why the characters are hot for each other, but the real hook for me? Just not there, like it was for, say, H/Hr or H/Lu.

I guess some ships just don't *work* for people. Simon/Kaylee never really clicked for me. Neither did Wesley/Fred. And Buffy/Spike. And Angel/Cordy.

Just not there, like it was for, say, H/Hr or H/Lu.

Maybe you can only ship something that isn't canon? *g*

Yay, an excuse to use my B/A icon! ladyaeryn October 18 2006, 22:02:51 UTC
LOL. No, weirdly - those are some of the few ships I have that weren't canon. Buffy/Angel, Willow/Oz, Anakin/Padme, John/Aeryn from Farscape - all canon. And dammit, there's still a slim canon possibility for H/Lu. *g* I think the non-canon thing applies strictly to HP - I don't really care for any of the canon ships there. (Well, I guess it sort of applies to Firefly too - the closest I have to a romantic ship there is maybe Simon/Inara, because I've enjoyed more fic about them than other ships, and it definitely wasn't canon. I was always more for the platonic dynamics on Firefly.)

Angel/Cordy... *shudders* I think that's the one canon Jossverse ship that has made me want to throw things (though I couldn't stand Willow/Kennedy either). Simon/Kaylee never really clicked for me either, partly because I didn't much care for how she acted around him. I saw Serenity before I got hooked on the series itself, and though I already knew S/K was a big fandom pairing, when I saw it in the movie I was like "...um, where did that come

I just got into Veronica Mars over the summer and I'm not really in the fandom, so I can't speak to that. I like V/L, but I'm not OTP about it, I just like him better than Veronica's past boyfriends. (I secretly ship her with Wallace, but I know that'll never happen.) I don't hate Piz either. The radio show should be an interesting plot element for him and the show in general. I missed Wallace and Mac as well, although I am glad they threw in a comment to confirm that Parker stayed living with Mac. (I'm meh about Parker, but at least she's stood up to her Mom.)

I'm not really in the fandom either, outside of LJ. I don't really have any interest in writing fic or discussing the show on message boards.

Wallace/Veronica? Hey, weirder things have happened. ;) I love their BFF relationship too much to change it (nor do I see it changing in canon), but if someone could make W/V romantically work in a fic, I'd probably read it.

Yeah, I know it's definitely a heretical ship (you, of all people, should appreciate that! ;-) If I did get involved in a message board or anything I doubt if I'd mention it. I would probably read the fic, though.

And, I will say that if their parents' relationship had lasted, I wouldn't still ship them. (That's a little too Boone/Shannon for me, thanks.)

I agree with your opinion on: V/L and the mysteries not being as compelling as Lily's murder.

What Veronica Mars needs is a mystery that really hits home: Like Keith dying or - even better! - Logan being murdered.

Personally, I preferred Veronica/Duncan and I still get the feeling that the creators changed their mind about getting them back together on a whim.

Much as I was relieved that Keith didn't really die in the season 2 finale, part of me still thinks that it would have created the nice sort of raw angst missing from this season. I would miss the Keith/Veronica dynamic, though. Logan dying might actually make sense (*ducks rotten fruits*) - at least as of this point, he doesn't serve much purpose other than Veronica's schnookums, and if he is indeed reformed and has dealt with all his baggage, how much is there really left to do with his character? Of course, if you do another murder mystery, you run the risk of rehashing the same territory that was covered with the Lilly mystery. But with the right writing? Possibly ( ... )

Rather than kill off Kieth, they should have Lianne get killed and have Kieth be a suspect ('though not guilty). That would give both Marses lots of baggage/angst. Maybe they could even have Jake and Celeste Cain back as another suspect (possibly guilty!)

Hmm. That's a thought - plus there's the extrememly satisfying bonus of a dead Lianne, who I've been wishing would get hit by a bus ever since the S1 finale. Wouldn't mind seeing the Kanes back, either.
