VM season 3 and V/L musings

So... am I the only VM watcher on my list who isn't OMGOTP4EVA on Veronica/Logan?

I almost feel like I'm missing something, because everywhere I go it's "OMGYAY!" And, with the exception of the occasional mild "aw" moment, they just leave me... meh. Even when they were snarking and angsting while snogging.

It's not that I'm a shipper of some contradictory VM pairing that L/V splits; I really have no ships in VM (I thought Veronica/Troy and Mac/Cassidy - at least in the beginning - were kind of cute, but really nothing more than that). I mean, I get why people could get into the pairing - they're attractive, and they were snarky and angsty with loads of baggage to deal with. I can understand why they were drawn to one another. But something, that hook that snares me in and makes me fall in love with a story/idea, was missing with them, even in season 1. When they first kissed, I get the feeling I was supposed to be feeling this grand culmination of something - and I just didn't.

And this season I miss their snark and angst and baggage - I liked it better when they were trading barbs at one another, not cutesy doey-eyed comments. At least last night's ep addressed a significant problem in their relationship (though oddly enough I don't think it's one of the reasons they don't click for me), that Veronica hasn't been able to fully trust him yet, and is still quick to assume the worst about his behavior - even with him having displayed huge trust in her by giving her his room key. He definitely trusts her more than she trusts him, which isn't going to change overnight - as V said, it's something she needs to work on. But if she can, though? In any case, I was glad to see some not-so-sunshiny moments in the midst of all their apparent glowing happiness.

- Another unpopular opinion: I don't hate Piz yet, who - poor guy - already seems to be the new Duncan, aka the VM Fandom Punching Bag. (I didn't hate - or love - Duncan either, but I do think Piz shows more personality so far.) Probably largely because I'm not a rampant V/L shipper, and don't go nuts over this guy being a potential OTP obstacle. In fact, if he is indeed supposed to be an obstacle, I kind of look forward to it, because V/L can't keep up this level of happy forever, certainly not this early on in the series. Plus he's kind of cute, and I think his crush on V is sweet, anyway.
- Yay, Weevil! Good grief, if I was the same kind of receptionist he was, I'd be out of here in a week, LOL. ;) I liked the idea of him having a flair for investigating (it makes sense) and helping Keith - pity the actual employment gig didn't work out, but maybe this opens the door for him to do more "unofficial" assisting in the PI area in the future. (Otherwise, I don't see what the point of showing he had a talent for it was.)
- No Wallace or Mac in this one? Boo. Glad Mac is finally in the credits this season, though.
- So is the rape thing the big mystery of the season? If so, then that's kind of... eh. I don't think anything's ever going to match the raw issues and angst the Lilly murder brought up, though. That's what has been missing for me these last two seasons of VM, I think... it's been enjoyable, sure, but what gave season 1 the edge (I think) and made the Lilly mystery so compelling was seeing the effects it still had on the lives of all the characters involved, especially V. Neither the bus crash nor this rape thing has had that much of a personal feel to it. Which, given V's past with this particular topic, there is room to do; reason for her to get very invested in figuring out who's raping these girls. I did appreciate the wretched but totally-in-character barb about V's earlier rape that Lamb made in 3.01, but I feel like there could be more.
- Or are they not going for an overarching mystery this season, but instead several ones solved over the course of a handful of episodes each?
- Yay for V still working in the library... I don't know why she was griping about it, working in a library is an awesome gig. :) (Until you find yourself with an asswipe of a supervisor who trumps up lame shit to fire you with, but anyway...)
