For Vander, not all of it is sense. Some of it is just personal. Luckily, he's generally a fairly sensible person. :p
(But things like Pemne, they really didn't help.)
Truth be told, nobody's going to be quite sure what to do with her, at first. She'll go back into training, and then be bounced around through a few spots. Part of it will involve training for Medical, so she can assist there when she's a bit older. She's not especially happy about this, because she can see her chance at Action vanishing, and isn't vastly patient about waiting to get it back.

As a side note, before Mikaela is transferred, Vander essentially drags her back to World One long enough to make her call her parents and let them know she's okay. He views it as his responsibility to look after her while she's still his partner, even if she doesn't want him to.

What? A responsible agent who thinks about consequences? I'm going to like Vander.

Yeah, Vander has a definite sense of responsility. Mikaela was Not Impressed. Especially not by the mind whammy that will see her motivated to go back and periodically make more such calls. Or by his speaking to Nursery and others, leading to her being given things to study to keep up her education. But that's what you get when you're thrown into a brief partnership with the kind of guy who flew halfway across a wartorn Galaxy to prevent his mission from separating a mother from her young son. He's got some very strong principles.
