My mom always referred to our cars when I was growing up as 'Old Betsy', I think regardless of what car it was (or maybe it was just the nearly identical Oldsmobiles we had for about 8 years). My two cars have acquired the names of the vanity license plates I've slapped on them, which were not exactly names but plates I liked.
Oddly...I don't seem to name my electronics, either.
