I went to see Public Enemies tonight. It just can't get a whole lot better than Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, two of my long time favorites!  ( Read more... )

I work in a bank, and I gotta tell ya, even now people think the bank is always out to screw them. Banks are SO different now, but people still don't trust them, whatever, that's another post for another time!

I haven't seen the movie, but to be fair, in the Great Depression a lot of banks just folded and took people's entire savings with them. Like the customers no longer had the meager savings they needed to survive.

Oh yeah, I definitely know that. That's part of the reason that Dillinger was such a hero, because he was getting back at the banks. I just meant that it was a justified feeling then, but people still feel like banks are out to screw them. Now, even if a bank folded your money is secured by FDIC. I think that's part of the reason the federal government was so quick to bail out banks and not as willing to do it for the auto industry, because they'd have to find a way to make sure all the people got their money back!

I saw that with some friends and I liked it quite a bit, though thought it could have used more characterization on some of the other character's parts. And I was a bit confused at the end with the woman who sold him out at the end. Either I missed something or she was suddenly in the story with no introduction.

In terms of gunfights I thought the Tommy guns they were using did far too much damage (too buildings and cars). The cartridge they use is not a powerful one (a pistol round).

The friends I saw it with didn't seem so impressed with the movie. But I think they were looking for more action and less plot.

I agree with the characterization of the others. The other guys in his gang all seem the same, I couldn't tell you who was who, except Babyface Nelson was the crazy one! The lady who sold Johnny out, Anna, was in it earlier in the movie. She was around when they first got to Chicago, I think in one of the safe houses. And I remember her telling Johnny that she was opening a house of her own and should come visit her girls sometime, I think it was in the bar or whatever when he first saw Billie.

Those Tommy guns were killing me. You're friend were right on the more action less plot, at least on the gun fights. By the time the big shoot out came, it didn't seem like anyone was going to get hurt.

I thought it was really cool seeing the way the police/FBI agents changed the way they went after Johnny, it was kinda interesting to see the way investigation techniques changed as they learned and got more experience.
