So yesterday, five of us went up the Grouse Grind, which is one of the popular tourist spots in Vancouver.  Basically, you spend one day of your vacation climbing up a series of steps (with a few tiny rock faces here and there for you to practice semi-rock-climbing or what I did, spidermanning it up ^_^) up a mountain.  Average time is about an ( Read more... )

YAY ANOTHER ROCKCLIMBER

If you wanna start seriously, I would recommend going to an indoor gym first. You can learn techniques better, b/c all the routes are controlled.
Also, more girls rockclimb than guys, b/c we have a better innate sense of how to rockclimb.

Also, I'm currently in pain from rockclimbing, so I won't ramble at you. :)

Seriously, this post was partially inspired because I read your post on rock climbing! Though I have been wanting to do it for some time and was actually reading up on it a bit.

Yah, very very fortunately, there's an indoor gym close to where I live. It's open at the times I'm available and it's very affordable so I'm going there this Thursday and kill myself on one of the newbie walls. I'm somewhat encouraged that while talking to the guy on the phone, I overheard him talking to a ten-year-old girl and warning her not to wear dresses. So if a ten-year-old can do it, I can sure darn well try! ^_^

DON"T UNDERESTIMATE KIDS.
they're scary good.
like, they're so clingy and don't fall, even when jumping and doing insane dynos.
...
I would recommend pants that cover your knee- harnesses bite and knees hurt when hitting holds.

Oooh, thanks for the advice. Was planning on wearing capris---that's a no, now. About kids, there were a few bouncing up the Grind. Man, what I would give for even a quarter of that cheerful energy.
