the foot is weird
I have no idea what it all might "mean". I think we give our own meaning to things.
One of the things I do believe is that the divine is not "out there".
God/Goddess is within. Waiting patiently for us to realize the presence that is always with us.The helps to recognition may be outside ourselves.
I think each culture makes up its own story to explain and help recognize the divine.
But, I think, it is always personal.
"Seek and you will find; Knock and it will be opened"
It is in ourselves. What we believe and trust can not be defined by others.

If the sea comforts you, and part of you interprets that as an aspect of the divine (I am the exact same way, as it were), why try so hard to rationalize it away? By doing that, it almost seems, to me, like you're saying to yourself on some level that you don't deserve peace and comfort, and that couldn't be farther from the truth.

It may not be the most metaphysical argument in the world, but if you find a measure of comfort through an experience, embrace it. Maybe it isn't necessarily a confirmation of God/dess's active involvement in your life, but its something, and these days, "something's" a big deal.
