I miss my shows, I miss the anticipation, getting up early to get the earliest possible download, devouring fic, endles conversations about episodes, characters and future possibilities. What's brought this about

Holy crap, I miss WaT! Fandom just kind of imploded and died when Elena came along... :( That was such an awesome show. My love for Danny Taylor has never really been rivalled, tbh. omg, nostalgia. I now want to spend the evening rereading some of Neko's fic, which is still up on nekosmuse.com.
I think it depends on the TV you watch. I see a lot of people talking about Doctor Who, which I watch, and Merlin, which I don't... Glee too, sometimes. There's a lot of talk about Game of Thrones, too. Although I DEFINITELY agree that there isn't the same discussion and dissemination that there used to be. I think a lot of it is done in discussion posts in comms too, now... that's how it was for Skins, at least.
I know! I miss it so badly, I was remembering the summer after Martin got shot and we spent all summer discussing what was going to happen and how they'd get through it and what did we get? Nothing except crappy Elena to screw things up. It really was the beginning of the end, how did they take such an amazing show and ruin it so completely? I'm going to dig out my DVDs from the first three seasons and do a rewatch, there were some awesome eps back then, Clair de Lune was when I really fell in love with Danny. I adored the burgeoning friendship between Martin and Danny in those early eps, will never forget The Friendly Skies and all the promise it held

Elena really was TERRIBLE. Oh god, that summer... right after Martin and Sam broke up in such a perfect way and there was that amazing ep about Danny's brother, and there was so much POTENTIAL. I may do the same thing! Oh god, I forgot about Clair de Lune... there were so many amazing eps. They developed their friendship so beautifully to begin with. Wow. Such a huge OTP for me.
Such a shame about that site :( Let me know if you find Alethia's fics anywhere! There was one (I think) by her that was a boarding school AU that was AMAZING and I would absolutely kill to reread it!
I have been terribly disappointed with the most recent series; I've been rewatching Nine's episodes and I think that comparatively they are SO much better - although this is just opinion, of course. I love Capn Jack! I just watched his first DW ep and he was so wonderful :') I'll definitely be watching TW but I'm not anticipating that it's going to be great. I was so upset when they killed Tosh that I'm not sure it'll be the same again for me, tbh.
It's not just you. Okay, currently it's hiatus Season but the shows I usually dl and watch right away might be Big Bang Theory and Community. And those are just half-hour sitcoms so it doesn't take up too much time.
I do like Fringe and Vampire Diaries but watch those mostly in marathon Sessions. Oh, and I watch White Collar pretty regularly.
But the shows I used to be really fannish about, SPN and Merlin? Meh to can't-take-it-anymore. And it's definitely the writing there. I no longer feel excitement for new episodes or even spoilers but more like dread of the "dear god, how bad will it be this time" variety. How the mighty have fallen indeed. :(
I do like Fringe very much, such a smart series and incredibly well thought out, written and acted, although a Peterless Fringe is no Fringe for me, so my fingers are crossed on that onen:-)
I think you hit the nail on the head there, it's horrible that when a decent ep comes along all you feel is relief that it wasn't as bad as you feared it might be. SPN is a prime culprit for that one, season one was so amazing that what we have now is a shadow of it's former self.
When is Merlin back? That's one I enjoy to watch but have no expectations of.
Most series seem to lose their way after their third season, the fourth seems to be pivotal as to how it carries on. SG1 was a prime example of that, in the fourth season they just seemed to create character conlict for want of something else to write about. I hate it when characters seem to change out of recognition for no reason other than writers needing something to write about.

Me, too. I was kind of dismayed with Anna Torv' latest interview where she was all "yay, we get to explore Olivia without Peter". Um, not really interested in that myself. And it would have been nice at least to make a mention of missing Josh or something. John Noble did in his interview.

I did like Season 2 and Season 4 (3 was a mess IMO though compared to nowadays, I have to call it downright decent). I even liked the first four eps in Season 5 but since then it's been more or less a downhill slope for me. Hated the Season 5 ending, hated Season 6 and the bits I have heard about the new Season make it sound even worse. Though I fear the network plans to drag it on to a Season 10, a la Smallville. I shudder at the though what will have become of it then.
