[ Severus hadn't stuck his head out to see who had entered as there was only one other besides himself that the wards he had meticulously set up would freely let through. He was in the little kitchen getting himself a cup of tea. A flick of his wand turned it into two cups charmed to remain warm on a platter that sent floating out into the sitting room. ]

Quite unsurprisingly, yes. I was not compelled by the urge to go anywhere after you left for your own outing, which I trust went well. [ He followed after the tray, which set itself down on a table. He had been reading the whole time, his book on the armchair. ]

[ She knelt at the side of his chair and reached out to pet Pandora. ]

[ He watched quietly. ]

Something entertaining?

Quite.

You could simply pick her up and take her to the couch instead of kneeling on the hard floor ... [ and then he would be free. ]

But, that would mean me disturbing her.

If you didn't pick her up gently yes.

[ She made a face before carefully wrapping her hands around Pandora and cradled her in her arms. ]

[ He looked mildly amused. Freedom! He could move again. But the very domestic sight of Lily cradling the kitten like a baby had him quickly picking up his plate and heading to the kitchen. ]

[ His retreat made her eyebrow raise slightly and she set the kitten down on her chair to follow him. ] What is it, Severus?

[ He hadn't expected to be followed. He was standing watching his spellwork in action - his plate and the few other dirty dishes were washing and drying themselves in the sink. It was an attempt at clearing his head of the images. Of the thoughts that had started to take over. At least nothing was showing on his face. Far too many years of experience come into play there. ]

Lily? What do you mean?

[ Perhaps she was imaging things. Lily pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as she looked at him and sighed. Her head shook slightly. ]

Nothing. Simply overreacting.

[ Mentally he breathed slightly easier. She hadn't suspected. ]

... you set her back down. [ He looked at her empty hands. ]

Pandora is a kitten. I'm no going to smother her; that's how you make spoiled children and pets who cannot be placed down for more than a few seconds before they are crying. [ She had suspected something, but she wasn't sure what it was. Seeing him so disconnected and devoid of emotions bothered her a great deal. ]

[ One eyebrow raised slightly at the slight outburst. ] Mother knows best.

Though she will have to be spoiled slightly. For example, I would rather she go for a little toy over one of the books.

[ Her jaw set slightly at his remark. ]

I doubt she'll find interest in the books unless you're reading.
