To say that every conversation they had ended up in some sort of argument wouldn't have been correct. Erik always saw them as debates more than anything. They were each playing a side of the field only the other would dare tread on. Their lives, in short, were exactly like the chessboard that they had sat in front of time and time again ( ... )

"Erik." Charles greeted warmly with a smile on his face. "I'm glad to see that you've accepted my invitation." Even if Charles knew Erik would join him for the evening ( ... )

He flinched internally when the other's voice shot through his head. While he was doing the same thing at the moment to him, they both knew it was different with this bloody TENEKA thing. He could have kept his helmet on during the night as well to keep everyone out of his head, but he needed information and since texting was not something he was fond of yet - why would anyone use a phone to text when it was made for verbal communication? Honestly - there was only one way to get it at night.

He was already moving to sit and once settled would pour himself a glass of wine. When Charles spoke again, he shook his head slowly, "There's no need to put yourself through the trouble," he muttered quietly. Even if he did hate the damned thing with a passion because he knew it was his fault the other man was in it at all.

His eyes flicked downwards at Erik's flinch. He wasn't in the man's head, but he could still hear thoughts at times, when he slipped and forgot to block out his mind. Charles folded his hands together and said nothing, eyes staying on the chessboard for a moment. It was like a slap to see Erik so uncomfortable with telepathy, even the one imposed on them from the city. It felt like rejection.

Though, Erik had already rejected him on a personal level. He had his doubts that Erik truly understood. Charles had to explain it to Raven, so no doubt he had to explain it to his best friend. If Erik even wanted to listen.

He finally looked back up at Erik once he 'spoke', sitting down in the chair across from him. Charles hesitated to reply, not because of the nature of the topic at hand, but because of the whole teneka business. "...It's no trouble if I offered, Erik."
