Amy and I went out to explore the Manhattan Greenway today. She bought a pair of rollerblades last weekend, and this was the first time we'd both had a chance to go out on our new wheels together. Actually, the easier way to figure it out is that 20 blocks = 1 mile.

The greenway is not as continuous as it looks; I hope you two did not end up stuck on the Amtrak rails as I once did. Many years ago, I walked the entire perimeter of Manhattan, starting from Inwood park. We did it in increments of 2-3 miles at a time over the course of a summer. You can't go quite all the way around the top on the East Side because you run out of pedestrian area, but I've been around all the rest of it. I learned a lot about different neighborhoods that way.

Fun Fact: Between 125th and 135th, you go through three different kinds of properties. Riverside Park is a City Park, Grant's Tomb is a National Park, and Riverbank Park (over the sewage plant) is a State Park.
