Amy and I went out to explore the Manhattan Greenway today. She bought a pair of rollerblades last weekend, and this was the first time we'd both had a chance to go out on our new wheels together. We took the A down to 59th Street to grab some food and sunblock at Whole Foods, and then headed out to the river. Our original plan was to ride for an hour or two, and try to get back up to 125th or -- if we were feeling really energetic and adventurous -- all the way up to the GWB at 175th.
Six hours later, we were back home. At 207th Street. For those of you who aren't used to thinking in Manhattan blocks, according to
this nifty gadget, we went just slightly more than nine miles. I probably rode closer to ten miles total, as I kept riding up ahead of Amy and then doubling back.
I am utterly exhausted, but it's a good exhausted. Most of it was a nice easy ride, except for one very nastily steep switchback just north of the GWB, where I ended up having to walk my bike and Amy had to pull herself up by clinging to the fence. But it was a very good ride, and I want to try it again soon, along with exploring the parts of the Greenway below 59th Street.
