KKM and Anime Conventions

Mar 16, 2009 21:21

I just had to share quick summary of the anime convention I just attended over the weekend.  The only anime I actively follow is KKM, so to me, it was an attempt to find other KKM fans... which started within ten minutes of arriving.  Apparently, being a Harry Potter fan and a KKM fan go hand-in-hand, and when I started chatting with a young woman ( Read more... )

I've been randomly tackle!glomped before. I was dressed as Miroku from Inuyasha. :DDD Glad you had a great time, darling! Also, boo on you for not getting pics though.

LOL... tackle-glomps can be dangerous when performed by amateurs.

And I'm sure I'll find a pic somewhere.

KKM is about the only thing I follow nowadays, so I know the feeling. And I've been tackled from behind before, too (only I was dressed as Rue from Princess Tutu), and I did not enjoy the experience all that much. D: Calm down, fangirls, calm down.

Last year I cosplayed Wolfram, and I went outside with my Yuuri to play a game of catch, and totally got hit in the face with a baseball. That was amusing/priceless. XD;

Getting tackled by fangirls is indeed a dangerous thing. Thus far, I've had no serious injuries, and my nose recovered from this incident, but still... not fun.

Do you still cosplay as Wolfram? If so, do you still attend conventions? I'm trying to find a gaggle of other KKM cosplayers.

Yeah, I still cosplay as Wolfram occasionally. It depends on what my usual group of friends want to do. A certain one apparently dislikes cosplaying the same people/person multiple times, though I've never had a problem with it (it saves me money... D: ). I've only been to a couple of conventions. I go to Animazement in North Caroline annually (where I won't be doing Wolfram this year, unfortunately), and then I've been to Otakon once and plan to attend again this year if money allows me to (where I will be cosplaying Wolfram, though I've not yet decided on the outfit).

Ah, so more in the way of local anime conventions, not the big general sci-fi/fantasy conventions?

I'll be at Dragon Con in Atlanta in September, but also Arisia in Boston next January. ConQuest is in Kansas City in May, and I'll be there, too.

Do you mind if I ask which con?

I was at a con this weekend end too only I saw no KKm merch and no cosplayers and since I was doing panels at the con I was running around the whole time so I didn't get much of a chance to talk... =/

Pictures are great how could you forget!?

I was at Naka-Kon in Kansas City. And I almost never take photos at conventions anymore because everyone I know does. However, this time, my wife was working the convention, and wasn't there to keep snapping random pictures. I just don't think of these things. I'm a bit like Yuuri - I get distracted by people and events, and I forget silly details. :D

Ah~ I was at momo-con down here in Atlanta. I don't have a camera right now but even if I DID I don't think I would have taken very many pictures. Momocon is a free convention so it's the first for a lot of kids n such. There was a few pretty amazing cosplays but not to many so I wasn't dissappointed by my lack of camera.

And I know what you mean. I have NO high quality pictures of my favorite cosplay I've done so far because I just didn't think too... and it's not like I can put it on now because my hair isn't pink anymore, I'd have to buy a wig. lol. I'm so easily distracted. lol.

I've actually got some good pictures of my best cosplay. The character I play best is Harry Potter (see icon), and I also play Frodo. I've competed in two masquerade competitions as Harry (school robes and quidditch robes), and did pretty well, and I'm planning to compete as Frodo next year. I've got plenty of pictures of those... but I need to get at least one GOOD photo of me as Yuuri.

You know - it would be easy for me to put my Yuuri costume back on tonight and take a picture. I'll have to do that. :)

Ah, I remember glomper fangirls. Never got glomped myself, but I watched it happen to plenty of people.

I remember my first AX while we were waiting in line for our passes, there was this girl who practically jumped everyone she recognized. She got a particular Inuyasha's Sesshomaru pretty good, squealing his name and tackling the person. We all watched in sick fascination, hoping that someone would eventually stop her. Well, Samurai Darth Vader showed up, and you could just see her preparing to assault him (and I would have reconsidered since he had a decent amount of hard "armor" sticking out), and he saw her and put up his hand, totally denying her before she had the chance. We laughed as she sulked away in defeat.

Man, I miss AnimeExpo. I'd love to dress up as Cheri-sama and maul all the other KKM cosplayers (too bad it's not in my actual personality to do so. >.<).

but at least I managed to pick up a copy of the 2nd season manga in English.
How did you manage that?!

Sorry, not second "season." Just volume 2. I found it at a vendor stand.

And... OOH! Dressing up as Cheri-sama. I could see you cooing over a cosplay-Wolfram about how cute he is and how all the boys would be just crazy over him, and cosplay-Wolfram acting completely irate.

One of the cosplay things I've envisioned is a Gunter and Wolfram playing tug-of-war with a Yuri:

Gunter: "HEIKAAAAA! You're so majestic and noble with your gorgeous black hair and eyes! OH HEIKAAAAAAA!!!"
Wolfram: "YURI YOU CHEATER! Let go of Gunter! You're mine! He can't have you! Stand by your finance, you wimp!"
Yuri: "AAAAAAH!!!

I wish I'd seen the Darth Vader glomp-stopper. That would have been excellent.

GAH!!! You beat me to it! Not fair, I tell you! *is jealous*

The Wolfram costume is excellent, I have to say. And where did you get the blue necklace for Yuuri? Or did you make it?

I'm not too sure about the platform boots for Gunter - he seems like the type who likes elegant buckled heeled boots. But then, if the cosplayer is short, it's fair game. :)

I cosplay other characters more often, so anime characters are a new thing for me.
