Truth, Pain and Sorrow - Part 10/15

Summary: Kevin and Scotty see Michelle after she moved back to the city with her new boyfriend. Based after the last episode so 5.08
A/N Sorry again about the late chapter, been a busy bee atm.
At Jail
Michelle is sitting in the interrogation room trying to understand why she was here; she didn’t think she had done anything wrong, at least this time.
Her lawyer walks in and offers a small smile, followed by a man she didn’t recognise.
“Michelle, this is Detective Jake Hewett. He would like to ask you a few questions, if you don’t mind” the lawyer says approaching Michelle.
Michelle nods her head but still remains confused “What is this about” Michelle asks worried but not sure why; maybe it was just the fact of being in jail made her scared.
“There has been an incident and we need to locate your partner Steve” Jake says machinery and in control. He had been brief on the details of the case by Sam (Sam was busy at the hospital) and all hands were on deck trying to locate him and the twins.
“What incident?” Michelle said wondering what could have happened that would affect Steve.
“That is not of your concern. All you need to know is that we need to find Steve” Jake said as he had been told, no information was to be passed to Michelle unless completely necessary.
“Why should I tell you anything then?” Michelle asks stubbornly.
“This could help in your defence” the lawyer said trying to reason with Michelle.
“We all know the chances of your getting off on the kidnapping charges are small” Jake says backing up the lawyers’ argument.
“Then why should I help you. Have Kevin and Scotty decided to arrest Steve for kidnapping as well. I’m not going to let you find him so you can blame him, especially when he knew nothing about it” Michelle said defending her boyfriend.
“This is a serious issue and we need to find him soon” Jake said trying the intimidating trick but failed.
“Just tell me why and I might help” Michelle said making sure they understood that she might only help if there was a good reason.
Jake stared at Michelle and after a three second count he decide to shook her into telling him about Steve; so that meant telling her everything without anytime to process the information. “Well let’s see, he kidnapped and held hostage your social worker Shelly. He then went to Scotty’s home and shot him; who is now in critical condition at the hospital. Then decide to kidnap Scotty’s and Kevin’s baby and run away. So you will tell me everything you know about Steve; RIGHT NOW!” Jake shout the last part to scare Michelle on purpose; making sure to use only the first names of the people involved because it makes everything so much more real.
Michelle listened to Jake not quite believing it her ears but somehow knew he was telling the truth; what had turned Steve into a monster. She started shaking when she heard that Scotty had been shot, he had always been there for her and her for him. Want had she done to him; why was Steve acting so out of character. Then she remembered there last conversation he had promised her that they were going to be a family; this was her fault, she got Scotty shot.
Flashback to earlier that day
Steve’s hand was still shaking with the fact that he had just shot someone, he can’t believe he just did that.
But he had warned him; Scotty should have known better. No, he shouldn’t have shot him he thought.
He was still debating with himself as he walked over Scotty and into his kid’s room and picked them up. He didn’t notice as they started to wake up and cry.
He held close as he went back downstairs and through the empty cafe and into the fresh air.
He looked at his kids and thought maybe it was time for them to meet their grandparents. He hailed down a cab and gave them an address.
End of Flashback
She was so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn’t listen until he was shouting at her.
She looked at the floor complete ashamed of herself and Steve and a quiet voice came out saying “I’ll help” she looked up and straight into Jakes’ eyes and said “Anything you need?”
“Tell me everything?” Jake said getting a pen and notepad.
Michelle started at the beginning not sure what to say that will help; his name was Steven Clarke, born and raised right here; that was the reason why he wanted to move back because he had family in the area and some friends as well. He was determined to reconnect with his family, after they lost touch when he moved away. He worked as a journalist photographer so he could move anyway. She discussed how and when they met and how he was in their relationship.
By the time Michelle finished Jake had compiled a character profile of Steve and determined that though he appear stable and loving in their relationship there were some underlining issues - particular when it came to family and his need for one. He looked at his notes and figured he had everything he needed.
“Thank you, Michelle. That’s all for now” Jake said getting up from his sit and nodding to the lawyer as well; knowing he was going to use this to try and get her sentence or charges dropped.
“Wait” Michelle said suddenly and he stopped and looked at her “Will you please tell me how Scotty is when you know. I know I have no right to ask but please”.
Jake looked at her and could see the concern in her face but wasn’t sure if he could tell her “I’ll check but it will be up to them whether they tell you” he decided to say; he couldn’t promise anything, he quickly left.
“Okay” Michelle said quietly, she had really messed this up. She was still in her thought when the guards came in to take her back to her cell.

The Hospital
There was still no news on Scotty as Kevin paced up and down the corridor while Nora, Saul, Sarah, Luc, Kitty and Justin sat down waiting for news. Everyone had hoped that when Justin came out he would have news; he did they guess, if Scotty’s need an operation is news. Then he was followed by a doctor anyway because Kevin needed to give them permission anyway.
It had been over an hour and Justin kept repeating every 10 minutes that no news was good news; which didn’t help at all. Everyone knew he meant well but it put Kevin more on edge.
Nora stood up and decide that Kevin should really sit down “Kevin, please honey, sit down. You’re making me dizzy by just watching” Nora said trying to get him to calm down.
Kevin looked up at the mention of his name “Mum, I have to keep moving, if I don’t I’ll..” he trailed of looking at his family knowing that he was so close to falling apart again; he needed to be there for Scotty.
“Kevin, SIT” Nora said pointing to an empty chair; Kevin knew it was pointless debating with his mother, particular when she had that mothering tone in her voice.
He was about to sit down when his phone rang; he looked down and dreaded talking to Jordan.
His mum saw that he didn’t want to talk to however was ring and took the phone of Kevin; he just allowed it to go with her.
“Hello” Nora said trying to figure out why the name Jordan sounded so familiar then realized it was one of Scotty’s friends. “Yes, this is Kevin’s phone. I’m Nora. No, he just it ready to talk to anyone really. Jordan, listen, there has been an accident. Not sure if that is the right word really; Scotty is in the hospital. Okay; see you in a bit” Nora said hanging up the phone and passing it back to Kevin.
Kevin stared at the phone “So, Jordan on his way” still concerned with how he was going to handle Jordan on top of Scotty. He had to clear his mind and focus on just Scotty.
“Yes, he said he will be here as soon as he can” Nora said knowing that Kevin is hiding something from him but doesn’t quite know how to approach the topic; it wasn’t like she could ask if there was anything wrong - that would be stupid.
It was at this point that Shelly came in on a wheelchair with a paramedic pushing her; she was complaining about not needing when she saw Kevin. She didn’t even wait to be checked in; she quickly got out of the chair and was walking towards Kevin as he walked towards her.
They didn’t even need to exchange words; without any thought they hugged each other, realising the tension that had gathered today. Kevin knew without question that Steve was responsible for Shelly’s disappear and Shelly knew that Scotty was here somewhere fighting for his life.
“What happened?” Kevin said curious to how she managed to escape.
“Sam found me” Shelly said gratefully. Kevin looked around for the detective “He only found me” she said mirroring his thoughts “He’s gone start back to the station” knowing it was only thing she could say that would be truthfully and give Kevin hope.
They were so deep in conversation they didn’t even notice the doctor approach them “Mr Walker” he said.
“Yes” Kevin said as to the doctor as the rest of the family formed as circle around the three of them.
“I have news about your husband” the doctor said and everyone sucked their breath in.
