Haven't heard anything about Britain yet. Yesterday I couldn't stop thinking about my decision to press charges against him. I felt anxious over it, as though I'd made some kind of mistake. Had I prematurely brought down a massive blow against his budding independence? Was it somehow a bad idea to take steps that might land him in jail so quickly ( Read more... )

keeps strong, wheels - it really sounds like your brother needs to experience the full consequences of his actions. i know it must be really hard for you to do - but i really think it is for the best. the one problem may be how much the police can do, given that each individual theft is on the small side.

but really, he won't change until he himself decides to. no one can compel him to get his life in order.

good luck.

The thefts are small, but the crime of breaking into our house can carry up to thirty years. I don't expect him to do anything near that amount, in fact I'd be surprised if he even got three before parole, if he's convicted. But I think any lengthy time in jail can give him a chance to think things out. There's not much else to do in there.

You are doing what you need to and what will probably be the best for him. *hugs*

Sounds like you need to stand up just as much as he needs to feel consequences. Strength isn't just physical. Really, kicking his ass might have been easier than what you did. Good luck. ::hugs::
