"Clark!" Lex was genuinely glad to see the reporter. "Don't tell me you're a one man newspaper office today." No one else seemed be around.
Clark laughed. "Nah, Beppo's in the printing plant at the moment and the rest of the staff is out on assignments." Chistopher James Beppo was the editor of the Smallville Ledger. "What brings you to the Ledger?"
"The Talon's opening on schedule. I've brought the ad copy."
"You could have e-mailed that to Beppo."
"Ah, but I wouldn't have had the chance to see you, would I? Are you coming to the opening?"
"The Style Section's not my beat."
"I wasn't asking if you were covering the opening, Clark."
"Oh." Clark blushed. "I'm not much of a dancer."
"I don't think I'd mind. I'd just like to have you there." Lex smiled at Clark, letting his eyes drift over him.
Clark swallowed hard. "I'll be there."
"Good." Lex turned to leave. "Tell Beppo to give me a call if he has any questions about the ad copy."
Clark's squeaky "Sure" left Lex smiling for the rest of the afternoon.
