Ummm... That's really difficult! I put Foucault's History of Sexuality: Vol1 up there, along with Judith Butler's Bodies that Matter (and Halberstam's Female Masculinity is just a TREAT of yum)...
... but tbh, the book that has helped me the most, the one I keep in my purse during semester and refer back to ad nauseam? Catherine Belsey's A Very Short Introduction to Poststructuralism ... this little thing has gotten me out of many a pickle! Especially when it comes to defining terms in papers - shabam! haz definition right there and am able to move on to my own point with no hang-ups, or without turning myself into a linguistic knot. I really, highly suggest it to ALL THE PEOPLE, because it is all simple language and gives a really great intro to all of the people/theories in PostStructuralism in about 100 teeny pages. It is a wonderful little thing!
Excellent, I love those Very Short Introductions. I use the Documentary one often. Also, this is actually the second time tonight that someone's recommended Halberstam on masculinity to me, and so I feel like it's probably a sign I should follow up on. Do you want more questions, distracto girl? Ooooh I have an idea: write a 100 word diary entry from Dawn, pre-S5. Only if you feel like it :).
Buffy is acting funny again and it makes me sad. She cries a lot and I don't think mom knows what's going on, either. Her creepy boyfriend is always in the yard, staring at her window when he thinks we're all out. Only mom says I'm old enough to stay home by myself! Which normally would be really cool, if only I didn't have a freak of a sister who dates psychopaths. Diary, can I get a restraining order?
I wish dad were here.
No Xander sighting today. But I think he broke up with that snobby Cordelia girl, yeay! Maybe he'll come over this weekend and maybe since Buffy is so distracted I'll be able to actually talk to him this time! (Yesterday did not go so well... I tripped and broke the bowl I was carrying before I even got into the kitchen... I hate my big feet... I wish I was dainty and pretty like Buffy WILLOW!!! a ballerina or something... maybe mom will let me take dance classes with Candyce...)
I'm on my phone now, so I'm gonna have to come back to look at your pretty pictures, but for now: you wanted a distraction!
Talk to me about your Bonnie-Elena expectations for s4! Also, what do we think about the fact that Elena's death literally saved Damon's life? How does it affect the symbolic level of the show?
