Yes, yes, yes! I love the A/C/W dynamic in S1 so much. Lots of ppl talk about Doyle, but to be honest, I usually forget he's around and am disappointed when I have to wait for Wes show up. I hate what happened to his character in later seasons.
I don't see a strong connection between Spike and Darla - they merely tolerate one another
I would love to have seen more screen time between these two. I agree that canon doesn't give us much of a connection to go on, but I bet the dynamics would have been fascinating. I'm sure Darla would have resented him when he turned out to be a buddy (sometimes) for Angelus. I've also read a great fic where she acknowledges Spike's maturity (for a vampire) after Angelus's ensouling (he steps up to be man of the family) and she realizes that she doesn't belong in the trio anymore.
But I so prefer the Ron/Hermione/Harry Trio.
