Today I very officially told the people who need to know that I'm not staying in Thailand for a third year. This decision makes me inconsolably angry in ways that I can't hardly explain.( cut for general frustration and cathartic bitching )
If you've said something negative about Bella or Twilight lately and you are over the age of 25, I ask that you check yourself - Bella isn't for you.Out of curiosity I just checked and realized the first book was published in 2005 -- so I was already over 25. Laughing at me and my irrelevance

Yeah I graduated high school in January of 2005 - so I just barely missed it. And at the time was completely in a 'pff teenage girls are gross I'm totally not like them' which is frustrating to remember.
I'm sure there will be something for your daughters. It will just be up to you to read it with them and be sure they take the good things from it, you know? Like Bella is a bad ass depressed thrill-seeker who punches boys who try to kiss her when she doesn't want them to and trips walking on flat surfaces. Admirable baby. But she also cooks and cleans for her father and lets her boyfriends slut-shame her and ends up in a kind of abusive and definitely manipulative relationship. So like with any narrative - there's good and bad.
but thank you for the reminder that people who may appear/be prejudged to be swallowing a bad narrative whole may be simultaneously critiquing it and pulling it apart and taking what they need and discarding the rest.wrt Thailand: I really hope you're right. I love Thailand so very much. so very very much.

I'm so sorry the latter half of your year has been so terrible and that you won't be able to stay in Thailand like you were hoping. Here's hoping for a new life situation that will be kinder to you and still bring you joy. *all the hugs*
Hahaha, I unironically liked Twilight book #1 when I first read it, and even now I don't particularly dislike the series. I do like Bella though. The eternal life stuff aside (which didn't even ping me, I kid you not), Bella falling in love with becoming someone who can fall, and not hurt herself - other people, instead - after watching the grace of other female vampires? I didn't feel betrayed by that part at all.

YEP YEP YEP. I'm so sorry you feel you have to leave and that it's so distressing for you. :(
And yeah. So much of the Twilight hate is so very, very explicitly STUPID TEENAGE GIRLS WHO LIKE STUPID THINGS and it's depressing.
