everything about this is completely correct. The part where Rapunzel is going back and forth between feeling free and feeling guilty is my favorite part because it's so relatable. (see: moving back and forth every year to make parents happy)
Also, I noticed that you mentioned the troll/magician/priest and referred to Frozen saying he was the one who told the parents to instill fear in her. Maybe I misunderstood, but I was sure that he meant she should learn how to use it and thus learn how to control it. I'm fairly certain he even said "her greatest enemy will be fear" (or something to that effect). So basically everything he told her parents to do, they didn't. (Examples of parents believing the way they raise their child is completely correct and never ever at fault).
Feeling the overidentification feels right along with you

They told her to hide it from her sister and erased her memory. He may have mentioned that fear would be her undoing - but I was pretty sure that he was advocating hiding over revealing. The trolls were pretty /upset over Elsa's powers - and as a child, that fear from magical creatures would stick and make her more afraid of herself. They never once said: "DAMN GURL BUT YOU ARE POWERFUL AND AWESOME" - they treated her like something was wrong and needed to be hidden/contained.
It was all pretty cryptic - but the vibe in that scene was very much "put that shit away" and not "damn you're awesome" and that's not what she needed at all.
So... idk.
Also - can we just agree that Elsa is obviously a little queer baby and should be getting all the lady kisses?
Hi! I'm Fabulist! Thanks so much for the kind words about my fix :). The way you described it makes me really happy. I've been working on updating it actually.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks. Knowing that people enjoy it is really motivating and rewarding!
Really great insights in this post throughout, too.
