Thank you sooo much for this message!! It really helped! TBH I just gave up and did a clean (non-piratey) re-install about three days after posting that, but by then I already had a lot of work backed up and fandom started looking scary again. But I'm back! And the picspam has been posted! Spring break is coming up, so I hope I'll have time to contribute something else to the comm. :)
