WIP: Steampunk Cog Dress

Apr 16, 2009 01:46

So.. going to attempt a WIP journal of my latest cosplay* venture and document things as they go. Hopefully, the idea that people are watching will keep me on task and stop me from procrastinating more than I already have. I will probably only update every few days or so unless I desperately want to show off some achievement so not to spam people ( Read more... )

F I LOVE STEAMPUNK you better have a lot of pictures of this once it's finished :(( the bolero/bottom of the skirt seem especially nice in the design ♥♥

Corsets seem like hell to make in general though ._.

I bought an amazing gold skirt at a thrift store... I have no idea what kind of fabric it is, but it's kind of shiny, with brass rivets all along the bottom. I was going to design a steampunk dress around it but ): Precious got ahold of it and chewed a bunch of the rivets off so I was thinking about sewing brown velvet patches onto it to keep the rivets in place again /rambleramble

The bolero and the bottom of the skirt are going to be hell to do. Bolero I get to pattern myself (hopefully I'll be able to use/modify a pattern I already have else, I'm screwed) and the bottom... well that's all going to be box pleats so there's almost three times the amount of fabric than the bottom hem of the dress... so much pinning and pleating...

And the corset isn't that hard to make once your have your pattern... I cheated and modified a store bought pattern instead of building one from scratch. Other than that, it takes a lot of time.

(Depending how exactly Precious chewed on the skirt, you might just be able to put new eyelets in... if the damage is more extensive, definitely add patches of whatever to reinforce before putting anything else on.)
