Idle contemplations of writing.

I feel like I haven't written fanfic or attempted original fiction in a looooong while. One idea I had in mind during BSG was backstory on Felix Gaeta, following the theory of good writing that every villain is a hero in his own mind. It's by no means close to done yet, but... a scrap. I think I wrote this something like two months back and

That snippet you posted is beautiful and bitter-sweet, given how it foreshadows what's to come.

Yup. That's precisely what it's meant to do -- give Gaeta motivation for acting as he does. Because you can totally see from the way Alessandro Juliani played the role that Gaeta was incredibly conflicted about it -- particularly in the wake of Zarek's purging of the Council.

In his own mind, at least at the beginning, Gaeta was the hero. I just want to try to see how he got to that place.

And he so didn't do it to be a hero. He was just doing what he thought was right. :(

He wasn't doing it for fame, but nonetheless he was doing it because he felt he was in the right -- he was the hero of the story within his own mind, fixing problems and righting wrongs.

That's awesome. I can totally see Felix like that as a child. He really would be a VERY interesting subject for "the life and times of" backstory. There was so much juicy stuff given to him, what made him tick? Yeah, this snippet was great - you should continue! (helpful advice, eh? :))

Now that you've cleaned the room, you have plenty of room for a big bulletin board of ideas! *cheekygrin*
