Well, yeah, an awful day, but I'm so impressed you even attempted this, and with how far you managed to go under such adverse conditions. After you've slept and recovered, I imagine you'll be pretty damned proud of yourself, as indeed, you should be.

I doubt getting a hug from Alan will do as much for you as it might for me, but it's the best icon I have in response to your tale, so there you are.

Oh man, I'm so sorry your trip turned so rough. (Hey, now you can definitely come to my birthday party ;) ) The McDonald's in Franklin is a fixture of my dad's summer biking trips, so I had an "aww" moment when you mentioned stopping at a McDonald's.

Yup, now I definitely can. And thank goodness I've still got the rest of the week off from work -- I need a vacation to recover from my "vacation"! *crazy grin*

You poor, poor dear! What a string of bad luck! It sounds as though you were up to the trip but your bike was not.

I'm sorry your trip is getting cut short, but you've had quite an adventure, seen things from a different perspective, and experienced the kindness of strangers. That's something!

And now you can go home and vegetate happily with your cat and your DVDs, and still not feel you're wasting your vacation. You've totally earned some veg time! *hugs*

Oh ye gods, yes. I'm for taking a lukewarm shower and falling into bed now that I'm home. Dinner almost seems like too much effort right now... maybe a quick dinner... : )

Ye ghods, what a mess. But by this time next month it'll be a funny story, and by this time next year you'll have a much better idea of how to approach such a trip. I'm still in awe of you for trying it at all!

No doubt it's got something to do with my mad desire to run the Amazing Race someday. *grin* And other than my bike breaking down midway through... yeah, it was exhausting, but it was also a hell of a lot of fun. *tired smile*
