Notes: Written because I decided to watch the not so awesome Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief while in a writing slump and got bitch-slapped with this idea. Thank you to

VII “This was not how I imagined our first real life conversation, you know.” Kurt opened his eyes, looking to the edge of the hotel bathtub where his mother was perched, looking like she didn’t have a care in the world.
“You called and I came. If you didn’t wish to talk to me while you were in the bath maybe you should have waited.”
Kurt laughed softly and sunk lower into the large, deep hotel bathtub filled with steaming, bubble infested, vanilla scented water and let his eyes slide shut. “So, I have boy trouble...”
“Mmm, the sons of Dionysus and Apollo, right?”
Kurt opened his eyes and looked towards Aphrodite, who smiled serenely down at him. She flicked her hair over her shoulder and held out some body scrub and a sponge wordlessly when Kurt leaned forward in the water, searching for it.
“Yeah. Thanks.” Kurt scrubbed the apricot scented wash down his arms. “I don’t know what to think. Is it really possible to like more than one person at a time?”
“Of course. It’s perfectly logical. Sexual appetite and interest are needed in order for humans to want to have sex, liking the person is part of the equation. You’re asking the wrong question, sweetie.”
Kurt frowned at her. She was right, though, of course. “Can you truly be in love with two people at the same time.”
“Well, that depends of course. You can, there are people who are in perfectly functioning non-monogamous relationships - lean forward and I’ll scrub your back - but the trick to making it work, is that everyone in the relationship needs to be satisfied. If one person isn’t feeling the love, or if one person is holding the relationship together, it won’t work.”
Kurt made an annoyed but understanding noise at the statement and sighed in exasperation. “I wish it was simple.”
“Love is never simple, Kurt, especially when you’re in it. Even moreso when you embody it.”
Kurt huffed a sigh, leaning back against the tub before slowly sliding down under the water with a groan. He resurfaced after he needed air, sputtering on bubbles and wiping soap from his eyes. “It used to be I couldn’t get one boy to look at me, now I have two fighting over me.”
“Well, as the Goddess of Love, I have to say I’m doing my job right, but as your mom, I have to say rock on.”
Kurt let out a laugh, sliding through the water to rinse his hair clean of suds under the hand-held shower head before pulling the plug from the drain. “D’you mind?”
“Hm? Oh.” Aphrodite turned on her perch, daintily covering her eyes with her hands as Kurt stood from the tub and wrapped his body in a fluffy bathrobe.
“Okay, you can look.”
Aphrodite uncovered her eyes, standing as Kurt headed out of the bathroom into his hotel room, which was pretty impressive for a teenager. Then again, with Olympus footing the bill, not that Aphrodite minded, only the best for her son. “The best advice I can give you, as Goddess or mother, is that you should talk to them. Sit them down, explain your feelings, and then listen to what they have to say, you might be surprised.”
Kurt nodded, pulling out some clean clothes. They were meeting in the lobby in ten minutes to go to the Met. “I know... This is all still so new to me. Um... Could you...” He made a motion and smiled when his mother turned her back. “Thanks.”
“You’re only sixteen, Kurt, you can’t expect to know things overnight. So much about life is living it!”
“I guess you would know, huh?”
Aphrodite laughed, smoothing her hands down her tailored pants and adjusted her sweater to busy herself. “I would. I do.”
“You can turn around now,” Kurt informed, adjusting his bow tie. “I guess... I don’t know... I thought maybe with my powers I would have more of an insight into things.”
“That will come with time and patience,” Aphrodite assured, crossing the gap between them she took hold of Kurt’s tie and fussed with it before smoothing her hands over his sweater. “You look lovely.”
Kurt smiled and pulled on his coat. “Mind walking me downstairs?”
Aphrodite shook her head and waited while Kurt gathered up his things, she offered her hand to him when they were in the hall, the gesture casual but meaningful. Kurt took it when they boarded the elevator.
“Do me a favour,” the Goddess murmured while they descended to the lobby.
“What’s that?”
“Eat a street pretzel. They’re worth it.”
Kurt laughed and stepped into the lobby, he looked around a moment before spotting his friends and made his way over.
“Hey guys, who’re we waiting on?”
“Mercedes and Artie. You seem happy,” Tina observed.
“Yeah I was just...” Kurt turned to indicate his mother only to find the space vacant, he smiled and shook his head. “Yeah, I’m great.”
“We were just planning the areas we wanted to hit up,” Sam said, looking down at his brochure for the museum. “We’re thinking Temple of Dendur first, what do you think?”
“Sounds great to me!”

“I can’t believe how big this place is. We’ve been here for five hours and I feel like we haven’t seen anything.” Kurt followed everyone around the corner into the next hall, stopping short at the cacophony of Greek and Roman art pieces. “Woah.”
The room wasn’t empty, but it was no where near crowded. It was quiet and filled with bright sunlight flooding through the skylight in the middle of the room. Kurt swallowed thickly, moving around several large statues to look at some smaller pieces in display cases. Jewelry and pieces of decorate glass, shards of pottery...
Somehow everything in the room felt bright and real. He felt like he should hold his breath, like he should be totally and completely reverent to everything.
Walking across the marble flooring, Kurt stopped at a headless, draped body of a woman. He peered down at the descriptive plaque reading the information talking about the piece as being the Goddess Aphrodite. He stepped back and stared at the statue, eyes wide as he took in the chipped, faded and weathered marble. As he looked upon the relic of worship depicting his mother’s headless body.
Kurt’s hands itched to run over the stone, to grab hold of it and never let go. It was a strange feeling, he knew the marble was cold and lifeless - inanimate - but he wanted it. He had just been with his mother but for some reason this slab of rock filled him with a deep, gut wrenching longing. He wanted to grab the statue and run, take it back to Columbus with him and stash it away in his closet where he could be close to it always.
It was just sitting there, open and welcoming. Like it was begging for him to take it. Like staying and being admired in a museum setting was wrong and he needed to rescue it.
“Kurt?”
Kurt jumped and whirled in place, looking over at Blaine with wide eyes, his heart hammering in his chest. “I wasn’t gonna steal it!”
Blaine eyed him a moment before looking at the statue and laughing. “You should have seen me in the Louvre, I nearly walked off with the Da Vinci painting of Bacchus.”
Kurt snorted, eyeing the sculpture again, his hands reaching up, hovering around the base, as if sensing the air. “It feels like it’s mine.”
Blaine nodded, hooking an arm around Kurt’s shoulder, jerking him back lightly when his hands got too close. “We all feel drawn to the representations of our parents. Personally, I think Dave actually has the original Apollino from Uffizi. I’ll find out where he’s hiding it one day.”
Kurt smiled up at Blaine, leaning against him lightly as he was lead away from the statue towards a glass case where Mercedes and Dave were looking at some pieces.
“We found an Aegis,” Dave said, pointing to the worn bronze bracelet in the case. “It’s almost like yours, Kurt. See?”
“Yeah.” Kurt peered through the glass. “Too bad mine’s back at school. We could have compared.”
“You didn’t bring it?” Mercedes asked, looking up from the case in shock.
“The strap broke when I was packing. I didn’t want to lose it.”
Mercedes nodded her head, peering down into the case. “Well, it’s not like there are any sirens or harpies in New York, anyway.”
Kurt laughed, grabbing her hand and squeezing it. “Nah, just gangsters and thieves.”
“C’mon,” Dave prompted, tugging on Kurt’s arm. “Let’s go look at the Byzantine art.”

“Did you have fun today?” Dave asked after a mouthful of his sausage as he sat down next to Kurt, who was ripping pieces off his novelty sized pretzel and dunking it in mustard.
“Mmhmm.” Kurt nodded, wiping his face with a napkin. “My mother really wasn’t lying, they are worth it.”
“You were talking with your mom?” Blaine asked, taking a large gulp of his soda before taking a bite of his garlic roast potatoes. “When?”
“This morning, before I met you guys in the lobby.”
“Oh?” Blaine tossed out the Styrofoam container and wiped his hands on a napkin before draining the last of his drink, shaking up the ice and sucking down the precious remnants of soda before tossing out the cup. “About what?”
“Oh, y’know...” Kurt crammed a bite of pretzel into his mouth, looking to the grubby sidewalk as he chewed and then swallowed. “Stuff.”
“That’s good,” Dave started, shoving the last of his sausage into his mouth, “becuth she--”
“Swallow,” Kurt encouraged, rolling his eyes hand handing Dave some napkins.
Dave swallowed and wiped his mustard-y fingers on his napkin. “I’m sure she’d know what to say, about... you know... stuff.”
Dave laughed and dodged the wadded up napkin thrown his way from Kurt before standing and stretching. “I vote for a movie night. We can order room service and pass out.”
“Wow,” Blaine drawled, standing and pulling on his bag, “way to sound gayer than me, David.”
“Don’t make me kick your ass.”
“Lay a hand on me and I’ll make you so ecstatic you won’t know left from right.”
Kurt watched the two of them banter back and forth before rolling his eyes and wedging himself between their bodies easily as the headed into the hotel. “Room service sounds awesome. Who’s room?”
“We’re sharing a suite...” Dave said, pulling out his keycard and handing it to Kurt as they reached the elevator. “Twenty minutes?”
Kurt plucked the keycard from Dave’s fingers, tapping it against his chin and backing out of the elevator as the doors started to close. “See you in twenty minutes.”
“Twenty minutes!” The elevator doors slid shut, cutting off Kurt’s smugly smiling face and Blaine looked to Dave before letting out a slow breath. “Ready for this?”
Dave lifted his shoulders in a shrug, stepping off the elevator and following Blaine to their suite. “Are you?”
Blaine pushed open the door, stepping out of his shoes and turned to face Dave, he wrapped his arms around Dave, squeezing him and pulling him close. “We can do this.”
Dave took in a deep breath before letting it out slowly and wrapped his arms around Blaine. “We can do this.”
~*~
“Okay Kurt, you can do this. Deep breaths. Just remember what your mother told you and you’ll be fine. Sit them down and explain the situation, if they really care for you, they’ll hear you out. You can do this. You’re fabulous. You’re awesome. You’re Kurt Hummel, son of Aphrodite, the mere idea of love bows to your whims, you can do this.”
Kurt took a few deep breaths, turning the key card Dave had given him over in his hands as he stared at the impassive door that stared back unimpressed with his panic. Kurt tapped the plastic rectangle against his open palm before turning away from the door. He couldn’t do this.
He had gotten three steps from the door before he felt a firm, invisible shove at his shoulders pushing him back towards the door. Kurt grunted, trying to force himself against the barrier to the elevator. The pressure increased and Kurt finally went lax, turning back to face the door of Blaine and Dave’s suite. Another insistent, unseen nudge came and Kurt stumbled forward with an annoyed noise.
“Alright, alright, I’m going,” he muttered to the likely presence of his mother and brandished the key card at the air. “See? I’m going.” He slid the key card into the slot and pulled it out, turning the knob with a sharp inhale as the light flashed green.
Stepping into the entrance hallway, Kurt looked around the suite - it was huge and definitely bigger than his room, which was impressive in itself. A set of French doors was opened slightly, noise filtering in from the adjoining room and Kurt pushed the door open slightly and peered inside, taking note of the unmade bed and blasting TV in the bedroom, two suitcases were open, their clothing contents spilling out over the carpet. Kurt smiled a little at the mess, but found it curious that there was one bed and two suitcases. One of them probably slept on the couch, though.
Kurt opened the second door just off the first, which he hoped would lead to the living room area of the suite and to Dave and Blaine.
Kurt wasn’t expecting the sight beyond, however. He wasn’t expecting to see Blaine’s head in Dave’s lap, with Dave looking down at Blaine adoringly, and Blaine looking back at Dave with a blinding smile. Kurt could feel the love that permeated the air like a fog, it was off, somehow, but couldn’t place what exactly was different with their love compared to other couples he had been around - namely Sam and Quinn.
“Oh,” the word left Kurt’s mouth before he could stop it. They both looked up at him, their faces flickering with a flurry of expressions. “You’re... I’ll just...”
“Kurt!” Blaine was up from the couch and his hand was wrapped around Kurt’s wrist in moments. “Wait, this isn’t...”
Kurt turned, lightly pulling his arm free from Blaine’s grip. “I just need to process, okay? I’ll be back in an hour.”
Blaine opened his mouth to reply but Kurt had slipped from the room and he heard the hotel room door click shut. “Shit!”
Dave sighed and watched Blaine move to grab his coat, before getting up to stop him. “Give him his space. We’ll tell him everything when he gets back.”
“But...” Blaine hedged, looking towards the door. “He’s going to be hurt. I mean... What if he doesn’t understand?”
Dave walked up behind Blaine and helped him put his coat back down before steering him back towards the couch and sitting him down. Dave went into the kitchen and poured some of the still steaming tea into a mug and added some sugar before walking back out and handing it to Blaine. He sat next to him, rubbing a hand down Blaine’s leg. “Don’t worry, it’ll all be alright. We’ll talk to him and he’ll understand.”
Blaine blew lightly into the tea before taking a long sip and leaning into Dave. “It’ll all be alright.”
Dave pressed a kiss to Blaine’s temple. “It’ll all be alright.”
