Blaine let out a slow breath as he shifted from Cat Position into Dolphin Pose, making sure to focus on his breathing and keep his mind clear. The soothing music was definitely helping him stay calm and de-stress. He had just finished a huge test and was a big ball of anxiety, so the yoga was definitely helping him work it out. He pushed up on his toes, giving a soft grunt as his muscles were pushed to the limit and lifted his head from the mat slightly at a knock on his door.

“It’s open!” Dropping his head back down, Blaine held the pose for a few more seconds before rolling onto his back and moved into the Fish Pose, his head tilted back and looking up at his visitor. “David, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?”

“I need to talk to you.”

“Mmm, about what?” Blaine asked, slowly sitting up into Lotus and looked to Dave as he sat on his bed. “Need help with physics again?”

“No, thanks though.” Dave nodded to Blaine as the other boy stood, handing him a can of pepsi and took a bottle of water for himself. Dave opened the can and took a few deep swallows before shifting on the bed as Blaine dropped down beside him. “I have a question about you and Kurt. I heard you went out on a date.”

“It wasn’t really a date. Maybe I wanted it to be one,” Blaine admitted, shifting past Dave on his knees to sit against his headboard, “but I don’t think he wanted it to be one.”

“No? He seems to like you, or maybe his googly eyes were directed towards some other son of Dionysus.”

Blaine laughed softly. “I don’t want him thinking I’m influencing him with my powers. We danced a little and... Well...”

“It got hot?”

Blaine nodded his head, diverting his eyes. “I think he thinks he slammed me with some sort of power but he didn’t. He doesn’t need to, you know? I’ve seen the way you look at him too. You know what he’s like, he’s something completely original - the whole package; funny, smart -”

“Beautiful.”

“Yeah, totally. He just... He walks into a room and pow! Lights it up. He’s not all tied up in the Olympus bullshit like so many other people are here. There are a few who don’t care - Artie, Sam and Quinn... But Puck, he’s raring to go, same with Finn, all of the Zeus kids and then there’s Jesse, who I swear is going to murder us all in our sleep.”

Dave laughed softly, shaking his head with a smile as he took a long sip of his drink. “You’d be the first person I’d tell if I saw it coming.”

Blaine grinned and twisted the cap on his bottle. “You’d better or I’ll find a way to kick your ass from Elysium.”

Dave chuckled and moved to sit beside Blaine, laying his head on Blaine’s shoulder without hesitation. “I missed talking to you like this.”

“What prompted this discussion, anyway?”

“I’m worried about Kurt, and you. I’m worried he might get the wrong idea.”

“Ah.” Blaine nodded his head. “You know, we could always... share.” Dave snorted and lifted his head, smirking as he sipped his drink. Blaine’s eyes narrowed and he jabbed a finger into Dave’s shoulder. “What do you know that you’re not telling me?”

“Nothing.”

Blaine’s eyes narrowed as Dave took another sip of his drink and returned his head to Blaine’s shoulder. Blaine smiled and rested his hand atop Dave’s. “Snow making you sleepy?”

Dave nodded, drumming his fingers against his empty soda can. “Your dad would have taken over for mine in Delphi by now.”

“Has he visited recently?”

“Not so much. He pops in and out of my dreams, let’s me know he’s still around... I haven’t seen him in about a year and a half. I think he doesn’t like me very much.”

“Don’t say that. He’s very busy, besides, his duties will be reduced soon, maybe you can call on him in a month.”

Dave gave another nod, yawning a little and smothering it with his hand. “Haloa is coming up soon, you must be excited.”

“Eh.” Blaine rose a shoulder in a shrug, making a so-so motion with his hand. “I don’t really feel it until the day of, you know? Besides, barefoot and in a ritual wear in this weather...”

“Maybe it’ll warm up.”

“Maybe. It’s more Sam and Quinn’s day than mine. I have a role, but mostly I’m just there for the party. And the wine.”

Dave laughed and yawned again. “Of course you are.”

“Tired?”

“Little bit. First snow always hits me hard. Less sun, less warmth... It’s not my time anymore and I still have so much to do.”

“You ever need me to shoulder the weight for a while, just ask.”

Dave threaded his fingers with Blaine’s his eyes slipping shut as he let himself rest for a moment; as he let his burdens melt and was grateful for his half-cousin. The “thank you” and “you’re welcome” silently floating between them as Blaine tipped his head to rest against Dave’s.

Kurt stumbled out of his room at the scream, looking around with bleary eyes, wondering what was going on. He found his way to the staircase and peered down it before turning to look up as he noticed people heading to the fifth floor. Kurt hadn’t been up to the top floor, only the Huntresses were allowed up there, but whatever had happened seemed to throw the rulebook out of the window. Kurt merged into the small flow of people and climbed the two flights of stairs to the uppermost level of the house and school.

Stepping off the last stair, Kurt noticed Dave, Artie, Blaine and Mike standing off to the side, looking down the hall and headed towards them. “What happened?”

Dave looked over at Kurt before looking down the hall again. “One of the Huntresses passed away. She had a hole in her heart.”

“Oh,” was all Kurt said, looking down the hall.

Blaine gave a somber nod and looked towards Kurt. “It’s sad.”

Kurt huddled closer to his friends, giving a fleeting, wan smile when Dave wrapped an arm around one shoulder and Blaine the other. He felt squashed between them, but safe. Down the hall, a man emerged from the aforementioned room, light flooding the hall as he exited and silhouetting his form. He had long dark hair pulled into a tight, coiled bun and was wearing a simple, dark grey chiton and had almost bat-like wings arching over his shoulders and sloping down against his body. Kurt knew without question that he was Thanatos, the daemonic personification of Death. They all watched, breaths held, as Thanatos stretched out his wings, casting eerie and oddly beautiful shadows over the walls before he wrapped his wings around himself and was gone.

Some of the Huntresses were huddled in a ball across from the room, crying. Kurt felt horrible, like he shouldn’t be where he was. Like he was a voyeur into their pain. He swallowed thickly and lowered his eyes to the robin’s egg blue carpet.

There was a sudden, sharp smell, acrid - like burning tires - and Kurt lifted his head in foolish curiosity. A middle aged man was standing in the middle of the hallway, between the group of spectators (which had dwindled) and the Huntresses. He was wearing a finely tailored suit and despite his age, still looked pretty good - he had facial hair, not overpowering, but enough to signify a few days growth, and slicked back hair.

Kurt felt Blaine shift against him, lips pressed to his ear. “Jesse’s dad.”

Kurt nodded wordlessly, turning his eyes back to Hades and wondered why he was just standing there. The God of the Underworld pulled out a pocket watch and swung it around a few times, sending flashes of light across the walls before his other hand reached into a coat pocket and he pulled out something that almost looked like a receipt. Whistling, Hades walked the rest of the way down the hall and into the open door before it slammed shut, leaving the hallway to glow in moonlight.

After a minute or two, the door opened again and Hades strolled out, followed by a beautiful, if a little plump, looking young woman. She had fair hair and soft skin and was wearing purple pyjamas. Some of the Huntresses sobbed and she offered them a bright smile and a wave before stopping when Hades did and rounded herself to his front. She took his outstretched hands and once more the smell of burning tires flared through the hallway and they were gone.

Kurt sagged in Blaine and Dave’s arms, feeling wrung out. The sadness weighing heavily against him and making him feel clammy and sick.

“Woah,” Blaine hushed, propping Kurt up. “How about we get you something to drink?”

Kurt nodded, feeling cold sweat roll down his neck. “Okay.”

They managed to relocate Kurt down to the kitchen and pressed a mug of thick, sweet hot chocolate into his hands. Kurt took long draws from the mug, letting the marshmallows melt on his tongue with a semi-amused smile. He felt like he had been hit by a truck and come down with a fever all at once and his hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

“What’s wrong with me?” Kurt asked, he had been through grief before, it had never affected him like this before.

“Grief comes from a place of love,” Blaine reminded quietly, rubbing a thumb against Kurt’s wrist. “You can feel the hurt they’re feeling from love. Now drink your hot chocolate, we need to keep your serotonin levels up.”

Kurt hummed, taking another swallow of the molten chocolate and milk mixture, licking the syrup from his lips and teeth. “I could make a blase aphrodisiac joke right now, but I think it would be in poor taste.”

Dave rolled his eyes, hiding his smile behind his hand as he took a long sip of his tea. The joke making was definitely a positive sign. “Do you want to head back up to your room?”

Kurt shook his head, looking between Blaine and Dave, the others had gone back to sleep once they were sure he was in good hands. “Can we just... Watch a movie?”

Blaine nodded, refilling Kurt’s hot chocolate and adding a sprinkling of the multi-coloured marshmallows before they left the kitchen for the lounge. Kurt squished himself into a corner of the couch, throwing his legs over Blaine and Dave once they sat down. They found an old comedy rerun and Kurt nursed his hot chocolate until slowly starting to doze to the sound of the laugh track, feeling refreshed and warm.

Kurt woke up the next morning to the sound of laughter and music filtering down the hall from the kitchen. Sitting up and stretching with a yawn, Kurt found himself covered with a blanket and both Dave and Blaine gone. Following the joyful noises, Kurt made his way to the kitchen. The tables had been pushed aside and a bunch of students were dancing around, laughing and singing. It was a very different sight than the night before. Then again, when you had reassurance in something like an afterlife, Kurt figured grief may not have lasted as long.

“What’s going on?” Kurt asked, yelling a little over the music as he found Mercedes.

“Last day of classes until January.”

Kurt nodded, he had remembered reading that classes ended December 20th, but in the rush to catch up, finish papers and do tests, the dates must have slipped his mind. He smiled a little as he watched Mike pull Artie into the dancing, laughing at Artie’s surprising talent. He helped himself to some fresh juice, taking a long sip, finding it to be pineapple and grapefruit.

“I’m going to go finish my last paper before I head off to my cooking club meeting. Have fun!”

Mercedes offered him a smile and a wave and Kurt topped off his drink and headed out of the kitchen. He was halfway up the second flight of stairs when he spotted Blaine, fresh faced and dressed, heading down.

“Morning.”

“Hey, you feeling better?”

“Lots, thanks for everything last night. You really didn’t need to do all you did.”

They moved to the side of the stairs as Puck and Finn came barrelling down on the manly quest for food, and Blaine rolled his eyes at them. “It was nothing. I’m glad you’re feeling better. What’re you headed off to now?”

“Finishing my paper for Catcher in the Rye and then my cooking extracurricular, you?”

“Christmas shopping. I’m almost done.”

Kurt nodded his head, straightening off the railing. “Well, I should go. If you see David, tell him I said thanks.”

“Will do.” Blaine stepped around Kurt, pausing a moment to lightly press his lips to Kurt’s cheek. “Stay awesome.”

Kurt watched Blaine journey down the stairs, feeling a warmth spread through his body that left even his toes tingling. Smiling to himself, Kurt headed up the stairs, feeling on top of the world.

Kurt finished his paper and handed it off. His cooking club was less full than it had been the previous meeting, and Kurt figured some students had gone home for the holidays. Back to their human parents. Kurt had a flare of homesickness at the thought, thinking of his dad, two hours away in Lima, and what he would be doing for Christmas. Kurt had paused in his dough mixing momentarily and wondered if he should ask his father over for Christmas. He would call him after dinner.

Once he was done in his cooking class, Kurt took the freshly made date and plum squares up the long trek of stairs to the fifth floor. He paused, feeling like he was intruding again, before he made his way over to the nearest door and, carefully balancing the Tupperware in one hand, rose a fist to knock. There was a long pause before the door was opened by a slightly plain looking brunette, whose eyes were red and puffy.

“What?”

“I um...” Kurt started eloquently, holding up the Tupperware container. “I made you date and plum squares. All of you, I mean... I thought...”

The girl looked down at Kurt’s hands and to the blue and clear plastic tub. She smiled feebly and nodded. “Come on in. I’ll send out a text.”

Kurt stepped into the room, looking around, finding it dressed like any other teenage girl would do her room. The walls were splashed with posters; Harry Potter, Taylor Swift, and the like. There was a large bow resting against the wall next to the closet along with two large quivers filled with arrows, signifying the allegiance to Artemis. Well that and all the hunting knives. And also maybe the large array of palm leaves.

“You’re Kurt, right? Aphrodite’s son?”

Kurt nodded, taking a seat on a small computer chair and watching the mousy girl text away. “Yeah.”

“Thought so, Brigitte says she’s seen you around. She says she’s seen you with Our Lady’s brother’s son.”

“Yeah. We’re good friends.”

“Oh, I’m Karen by the way.” The girl leaned over, offering her hand and Kurt shook. “The other girls are on their way. It was very thoughtful of you to make us something.”

“Whenever I was feeling upset my step mom used to make me oatmeal and raisin cookies, they always cheered me up.”

“C’mere,” Karen insisted, patting a spot on her bed. Kurt felt a little scandalized, he didn’t even like women, and he knew all the followers of Artemis were celibate, but it was still shocking. Kurt moved to the bed, offering the box and smiling when Karen took a square and had a huge bite. “Oh my goodness, these are amazing.”

The door banged open and suddenly a flood of females, ranging in age, poured into the room. At least twenty of them. They were all talking at once and making grabs for the baked goods. Kurt had to laugh as they all settled on the floor, each delightedly chewing on a date and plum square. Their ages seemed to range anywhere from fourteen to over thirty, and they were all dressed relatively simple - sweats or pyjamas.

“Hey,” Karen started, breaching the silence and reaching for a second square, “how about we tell you about her?”

Kurt hedged before nodding. “I’d really like that.”

“Gemma was amazing, she was so good at singing. She came from Texas and she had this slow drawl you know? She grew up Protestant, and while being completely devoted to Our Lady, she would always talk about Jesus. It was actually kind of sweet when you think about it...”
