Kurt and Blaine were suddenly caught up in what Julie referred to as a “media shitstorm.” The whole thing had happened so fast, it was all still a blur to Kurt. One minute he and Blaine had been happy and kissing and the next they were wearing ice cold slushie.

He’d watched in horror as Wes and David had taken one of the jocks to the ground, obviously the culprit.

The police had been called. Charges were filed. Someone had assaulted one of the most famous teenagers in Hollywood.

The paparazzi got it all on film.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON THESE PICS?

WHO WOULD DO THAT?

They arrested the kid who did it, thank goodness.

I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICES THINGS.

Needless to say, Kurt was freaking out about his interview. His parents had just gotten home from their debate, where the swing had definitely gone in his father’s favor. He was in the kitchen, sipping water and clinging to Blaine with a death grip. The crew was busy setting up in the living room, and Katie was having her makeup touched up in there as well.

“What if I look like an idiot?” Kurt asked.

“No way would that happen,” Blaine denied. “You’re going to be great, Kurt.”

“I’m so glad you’re here,” Kurt murmured. “I don’t think I could do this without you.”

“You could,” Blaine replied. “But I wanted to be here for you just the same.”

“You’re up, kiddo” Burt told him. Kurt nodded. They’d opted to do the interview live, something a little uncommon, but they thought it would give them an edge with the audience. Kurt bit his lip as he followed his father into the living room.

“Good evening,” Katie said, looking into the camera. “Tonight we’re on location, doing a special interview with Kurt Hummel, son of Congressional candidate Burt Hummel.” She turned toward Kurt. “How are you tonight, Kurt?”

“A little nervous, actually.” Kurt smiled and Katie chuckled.

“There’s no need for that,” she replied. “Let’s get started,” Katie continued. “It’s no secret your father is running for Congress. How do you feel about that?”

“I think it’s amazing,” Kurt gushed. “I think he can really do something to change the way things are.”

“You and your dad are close?” Katie asked.

“Yes,” Kurt answered. “After my mom died, for a long time it was just the two of us. Of course, he met Carole and fell in love and our family has grown, but we’re still just as close as before.”

“One of the things that your father as advocated for on during his campaign has been tougher anti-bullying laws in Ohio. What are your thoughts on this?”

“I think it’s desperately needed,” Kurt told her. “Most of my high school existence has been miserable - it’s not hard to tell that I don’t exactly go with the flow.” He paused. “Because I’m different, I’m a target.”

“What do you mean?” Katie pressed.

“You name it, I’ve probably experienced it. Name calling, shoving, being throwing in the dumpsters, slushies…” he trailed off. “It’s gotten worse since I’ve started dating.”

“Speaking of slushies,” Katie continued. “Can you explain what’s going on in the picture here?” She gestured to the screen where one of the paparazzi photos from Friday was being displayed.

“That’s me and my boyfriend being slushied by one of the jocks at my school,” Kurt said.

“That’s terrible,” she murmured.

“Like being bitch slapped by an iceberg,” Kurt replied. He wrung his hands a little and hoped the camera didn’t pick it up. “One of my classmates even threatened my life.”

“And what did the school do?”

Kurt shrugged. “They don’t do anything about the day-to-day bullying,” he answered. “They did take the death threat seriously and suspended the student who made it, but the school board overturned it because there wasn’t any proof.”

“You’re doing your part to change things as well, is that correct?”

“I am.” Kurt smiled again. “I’m running for Senior Class President. If I win, I’m going to start making my own changes, such as petitioning for a ‘Zero Tolerance No Bullying’ policy.”

Kurt finished out the interview, discussing how his father also supported the arts, and how the arts had most likely saved his life.

Katie thanked him, shook his hand and then it was over. The living room was cleared out of all the equipment, Katie and her crew left, and all Kurt wanted was cuddle time with Blaine and the hottest shower he could stand.

Kurt’s Interview with Katie Couric

OMG, sobbing. I can’t.

This is awful. How can people treat other people like that?

I don’t get it. He seems like such a great guy. Why would someone do that to him?

Because he’s different. Fuckers.

I am so angry right now.

Everything he says is true, guys. It happens all the time at our school. Those pictures last week were not of a singular incident.

Kurt found Blaine lounging in his bed when he got out of the shower. He wasted no time crawling in bed with him. Blaine pulled him close, cuddling around him. Kurt buried his face in Blaine’s neck, breathing him in so deep.

“When do you have to go?” he asked, his voice muffled by Blaine’s skin.

“An hour,” Blaine whispered.

“I wish you could stay,” Kurt sighed.

“Me too.” He toyed with the drying strands of Kurt’s hair. It was a testament to his love for Blaine that Kurt even let him touch his hair. “We won’t have to do this much longer,” Blaine pointed out.

“What do you mean?” Kurt wanted to know.

“As soon as you graduate, you can come out and see me whenever you want.”

“That’s true,” Kurt said. “But I’ll be in school next year and that might be just as difficult.”

“We’ll figure it out,” Blaine replied. “I’m not losing you to the bright lights of the big city.”

Kurt laughed lightly. “Never,” he promised.

“When is your NYADA application due?” Blaine wanted to know.

“After the election,” Kurt answered. “I need to start getting my stuff together - essays and recommendations and…”

“Shh,” Blaine hushed him. “Don’t worry about all that right now. Let’s just enjoy this before I have to go.”

Kurt clung tighter to Blaine. He tried to push NYADA out of his mind, along with the fact that Blaine hadn’t exactly sounded thrilled at his plans.

He had more important things to worry about at the moment - like kissing Blaine until he had to leave.
