There's a very resonant irony present in my state of health. Being able to live in Japan during one of the worst outbreaks of H1N1 while not contracting it was a noteworthy feat, but coming home and suddenly being felled by a common cold is annoying comical, and it's worse when I go for checkups and find something rather alarmingly wrong with me. What people are allergic to in cat fur is the dander (which is, I believe, flaky skin) and the best way to minimize that it to spring for the more expensive, human-grade foods that they sell at natural pet stores. The pet store staff can help you pick something out. We use Merrick's brand plus various digestive enzymes and vitamin powders. When their coats are in really good shape, they are not only less allergy causing, but they are soft as bunnies. If they are already eating non-grocery store food, then you will probably be discovering you are less allergic to them that you would be otherwise.
