Bleh, and eye disorders

There's a very resonant irony present in my state of health. Being able to live in Japan during one of the worst outbreaks of H1N1 while not contracting it was a noteworthy feat, but coming home and suddenly being felled by a common cold is annoying comical, and it's worse when I go for checkups and find something rather alarmingly wrong with me. (Well, to me it's alarming.)

For the last few months of my stay in Japan, I found that my eyes were slowly becoming increasingly sensitive to wearing contacts for long periods, and I was slightly light sensitive. These are easily treated, but the itching on the underside of the eyelid was just this side of maddening and I had simply assumed that it was allergies. Some pills later, and I was sublimely stoned, rendering my discomfort quite moot.

I had my dentist appointment and yearly eye exam today, which were quite nice to have. The dental appointment was fine, though I did get a bit of scolding for not flossing nearly enough. The eye exam, however, revealed that I'm suffering yet another type of allergy; one resulting from my contacts.

From what I gathered, my eyes have slowly been developing small 'bumps' on the underside of the upper eyelids, which is caused by the contacts I wear. These have developed into a relatively small case of Giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC), if I recall correctly. Basically, these bumps are the source of the itching, the thicker discharge of tears, and the bloodshot eyes I've been suffering from, made worse by my allergy to the cats.

First of all, ew. EW, Ew, ew. Second, it's rather treatable, but I'm forbidden from wearing contacts for two months. Third, due to the state of my eyes the doctor wouldn't do the eye exam nor the dilation of the pupils until I recover, which leaves me wearing glasses with an old prescription for a while. I took some time while I was at the doctor's office to look at frames, and I found some rather stylish ones which boasts my ever-favored memory metal feature at a very reasonable price, though I'll probably invest in scratch resistant lenses, too.

Though still a bit phlegmy, I seem to have recovered from the cold well enough to enjoy the day, and got to see returntoshore and the Twins for a brief time, to boot. I'm probably going to spend part of the day cleaning up The Office, as our housewarming party is this weekend, and I'm not quite ready to impress my long-missed friends.

Oh, and goobermunch? I am too back in the States. Shush, or I'll ask your wife to shush you with her fearsome Librarian Powers. :)

health, friends, home
