I would like to start doing brief reviews of the novels I read, so here is my first go at it. I finished this one a few months back, but it's worth commentary.
Nana by Emile Zola (1880; my specific copy was translated from the French in 1972)

I think about it daily. A growing anxiety that my life is finally coming to an end. There is no good way for the living to talk about such a thing. I fell in love with Lee McQeen and the man on the bus with tribal tattoos on his face and on his hands today.

This volunteer work is making me realize how helpless I am in this world, but not in a hopeless way. It's mind-blowing what some of these woman have gone through and are still going through. Moving ones self into the light of true tragedies that occur it is so apparent how much work there is to be done.

Never Knows Best
Last week I fell in love with an old man on the train. He was sitting across from me, in his pressed pants, penny loafers, golf hat, a wooden cane with an eagle carved on top, a Rockies windbreaker, doing the week's crossword. Water From The Moon
Light shimmers down the street signs after the rain, fish scales floating to the sea floor after a battle. In retrospect, there was probably a faint putridness that followed him, one that she failed to detect when she fell in love. But now, his deportment and words seemed steeped in it, turning bitter. The actors of the world were better at their job than initially anticipated.
