Quick Madrigal thoughts

Fun and much lower key event for me than normal, by choice.  I puposefully took a step back away from things a lot.  This gave me RP time with both my fellow PCs and some of the NPCs that I normally would have missed out on.

Performing with Tashka in front of much of the town was both scary and fantastic.

The bummer of my weekend was breaking my ( Read more... )

I hadn't heard about your flute. I'm so sorry to hear that.

What happened to your flute?

"Both Sides Now" is such a pretty song; I love it. Understandable and totally appropriate choice. :-)

I carry the flute in a very sturdy cardboard tube inside a cloth carrying sleeve attached to my belt. The cloth is generally rugged enough to hang in through most any of my LARP activities but it is cloth, so if I somehow do something stupid like fall on it, it rips, allowing the flute tube to break free from me.

This weekend one of those falls happened, but the cloth strap ripped away from one side of the holder and not the other causing the tube to come down right under my knee. The tube took the full weight of my knee right in the middle.

The flute has a 3 or 4 degree bend in the middle of it. It's noticable if you hold it up. There's a huge dent right below the second key of the left hand. One of the keys won't move at all. The one next to it is sluggish.

I don't know if a dent of that nature can be taken out such that the rods and keys will align properly again.

I hadn't heard about your flute-- I'm so sorry about that!

In happier news, you and Tashka were lovely. Such a beautiful song-- so appropriate for the event--, and talented musicians. Well done to both of you.

Yeah, that was a downer, but on the bright side, if the damage is irreparable, I'll get a new flute out of the deal. I would be really unhappy though. I've had that particular flute for 35 years.

Also on the bright side, I learned that piece with Tashka on the recorder. If I'd had to try and pull a change from flute to recorder, from memory, on the fly, I probably would have killed myself. Bad enough that I do *NOT* perform from memory to begin with, I was already a bundle of nerves.

Thanks for the kind words. :-)

I'm so sorry about your flute! I really hope that it can be fixed.

I guess nerves happen to everyone, but I'm always surprised to hear when someone with such amazing musical talent as yourself gets nervous or thinks of performing as the least bit scary. Needless to say it was AMAZING and beautiful. I was so glad I was able to hear it. The music really soared when the two of you joined up for the chorus.

Well, I could stand there all day and play with music in front of me either all by myself or as an accompanist or part of an ensemble and there would likely not be a single bit of nerves. However, there were mitigating factors at work here ( ... )

"I picked up the solo part by listening to a recording, then wrote the underlying recorder part from a chord progression and then harmonized the chorus by listening to it and singing along with it."

Has anyone told you that you're amazing? If not, YOU'RE AMAZING!

You both did a really fantastic job. Bravo!!

You were amazing. If it had gone badly, it would have been 100% on me. Thanks so much for performing with me, it really made my event <3

"Both Sides Now" is a great song. It is a toss up, depending on my mood, whether I prefer the version from Clouds or the older, wiser version from Both Sides Now.

Which version is in your head with Zephyr?

If I was going to say which Joni MItchell version I prefer, I'd say the 'Clouds' version, though the mood of the older wiser one is more in keeping with what Zephyr is feeling. But the version I personally like the most is Judy Collins' rendition of it.

You don't know Zephyr, but it's so appropriate to start with clouds because he's an Eurvein of Air, completely air aligned, very much a light, fluffy, airy individual and a Stormdancer to top things off, so seeing clouds from different points of view is perfect.

The other two verses have so much to do with how his life is changing lately and in an especially drastic way this past weekend. Several versions of the song could have been playing as his soundtrack during the game, changing to match what was going on.
