yeah i get that, usually from people i wouldnt want to recommend to anyone anyway cos i dont know them and have no idea if theyd turn up/do a good job.

I do like to pass on job info to girls I know though, if I'm not suitable for something and they would be perfect

This reminds me of a story you posted where you once suggested someone to someone else and the person you suggested ending up flaking on their end of things. Something like that. So if that happened and the situation bit you on the butt (figuratively), let them know that. And if you have the time to do so, give 'em tips (or an FAQ?) on how you started finding work. Sure, the ones that want stuff handed to them may get upset, but the ones that really want to kick the butt will probably learn from your words and gain more than any gimmie gig will give them. I'm almost sure that you said something like that once, so my reply's a bit useless, isn't it? Oh well. Have fun anyway!

Obviously, I don't know your industry :P

But, it seems entirely fair that if someone you don't know from eve asks to be hooked up, unless they can provide (in advance) reciprocation, then an agreed cut would be entirely fair. If there's a good likelihood that after the hookup they'll continue to get work / extra contacts through the person you set them up with then a one-off payment from an earning gig they wouldn't otherwise have, all agreed up-front sounds totally businesslike.
