Peaches! in October!

There are a great many things I like about living in Corvallis. Being close to friends is certainly a big one--we had a somewhat impromptu dinner party last night which was a ton of fun. And certainly I'm happier being closer to family (my mom and all my brothers made it up for our housewarming party a couple of weeks ago, which was a real treat ( Read more... )

That sounds like a really cool idea. Not much hope for it in Anchorage - I don't think we could stand fish and cellar vegetables for 9 months of the year :).

Yeah, I imagine it would be even more impractical in Alaska than in Maine. In many ways it's not even that practical here--unless you're willing to pretty drastically limit your diet. Personally I'm not so keen on giving up bread, and wheat just isn't grown in Oregon.

Peeps have been talkin about it a bit in Seattle. With about 4 farmers markets in 5 miles of my house I really should do better with that kind of thing. They have a pretty great selection and the U-District market is year round now!

We don't have that option here, but we did join a CSA. That seems to have helped a great deal with our produce options.

CSA's are da bomb. We've been loving ours this year, and I'm sure we'll miss it during the winter.
