And sure, I'd be happy to! Do you have any idea as to what kind of a look or direction you want to go in?

If you're starting from absolute scratch,then I'd suggest taking a two-pronged approach: first of all, just browsing through Google images and saving everything that grabs your eye as being something particularly cool that you'd like to try to a dedicated folder (and doing the same with Victorian/Edwardian fashions; the Costumer's Manifesto is a great place to start for researching historical costumes from any age). While doing this, try to get a feel for what kind of character you want to create. Military? Engineer? Adventurer? Are they upper class? Working-class grunt? Social class, income, and trade will have a large effect on how the garb looks (a self-made inventor won't look the same as say a rich, mad-cap adventurer or a middle-class major). That gives you some kind of direction and guidance on materials (cut of the clothes, what they're made of, etc) and what

Hmm. I agree, "God is in the details," as a college set design teacher was wont to say. Some thoughts off the top of my head:
