First off, no spoilers here. :D Second of all, if you loved the original trilogy, holy shit, you need to see this movie. Like, right now.

Third, holy shit, I have not seen a good Star Wars movie in thirty-two years. We just saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens today. I was in tears when it began and very much so at the end, just because it was so damned

Oh, man, reading the cast list was like seeing old friends again after decades apart.

I had heard the new one described as "What if they remade A New Hope-- and it was good?" which is not inaccurate, ha ha; but I think especially after the prequels, having been collectively burned so bad on them, it was important for this one to feel as familiar and right as possible (for example, the extensive use of practical effects and miniatures over CGI). And I think they succeeded really well in that, going so far as to have the original writer of Empire and Jedi coming in to finish and rework the script.

Now that they've accomplished their mission of restoring faith in the Star Wars franchise, I fully expect the next two to not be mirrors of V and VI, but to head off in their own, new direction. But I suspect they really needed that firm grounding back in what feels like the real Star Wars universe, in order to have that foundation to reach out in more original directions with

I think the look and the editing and the restraint was what sold me on it the most. I just wanted to squeal, "it looks right! There is no clutter!" and it just made me so, so happy.
