As happy as I am about the results of the election... the LGBT measures are not looking good:

Arkansas Initiative 1: Ban on Gay Couples Adopting Children
Yes 57%, No 43%, with 90% reporting (it's projected that it will pass)
Arizona Proposition 102: Ban on Gay Marriage
Yes 56%, No 44%, with ( Read more... )

Proposition 8 is the only one to have hope for, for sure. I can't believe Arkansas banned gay couples adopting. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Ban on Gay Couples Adopting Children

WTF? Are there gay couples who have already adopted children?? I have nightmares of CPS removing children from their loving, gay parents and the ensuing trauma and suffering. D:

Only slight glimmer of hope is how close all the margins are. Still though. :(

oh my god these propositions were so upsetting last night!

I need to go check Prop 8. But I was just sitting there, trying to be happy in all the Obama victory glory, but it was so alarming.

But have you read that arkansas ban on gay couples adopting? It actually doesn't have much to do with gay couples. The way I understood it It's banning any couple in a sexual relationship, gay or straight, that's not married from adopting children. Which still should not pass, but still, there's something kind of strange about it.

The Arkansas Initiative 1 is, you're right, a ban on any 'individual who is cohabiting outside of a valid marriage' from adoption or becoming a foster parent. However, from what I've read, it's targeted at the gay couples. (They couldn't specifically state that, or it wouldn't have made it onto the ballot because of the language.) Any cohabiting heterosexual couple could just get married, but the gay couples now have no option for having children.
