Observations on a Concert From a Not-Yet Old Fart

Last week was probably one of the busiest weeks of my life in recent years.  Monday, I had my local writer's group.  Tuesday was Claire's music lesson.  Wednesday was the Library Reading, Thursday was Daddy and Claire night (Em went out to dinner with some friends), Friday I spent a good chunk of the day blitzing friends about "Last Respects" ( Read more... )

switchfoot, concerts, music

Cellphones? I hadn't even heard of that one. A cellphone is a wonderful thing, but it will never match the beauty of a raw flame. All of which means, of course, that I'm old. When I was young, being young was all about the fire.

I first knew I was old when I realised I'd only go to a concert or a even a pub if I could have a seat.

That was the other funny thing -- I think I maybe stood for less than five minutes of this show and it was rock and roll show. Granted, we were in the balcony, but still.

The cell phone thing is really strange. Part of me could disconstruct it as starting as a hipster parody on the lighters but even if that's the case, it's definitely more than that now. Bizarre. You're right, you can't replace flames.

I first saw the cell phone thing at a show in 2003. I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't.

Somebody at the office told me about it and I thought they were kidding. Unfortunately, they weren't.
