I think it's normal to hate your gender equivalents in superhero comics. Funny that I have the opposite reaction she does and see those as character development whereas if you take the whole statement you put in quotes and replaced "raped" with "turned gay" (if you don't know, look up 'pink kryptonite'...and incidentally I don't think being turned gay is a bad thing, being gay never hurt Batman's or Spiderman's popularity) you'd pretty much have every male superhero and they can't even turn out to be decent father figures either...*grumble grumble*
