The only way that would make any sense to me is if this is part of a series/trilogy and there's another book on the way that will resolve all the unresolved stuff. (Still not a great way to end a book, though.) If it's a stand-alone... I cannot conceive of how it came to be released like that.

See, I'm pretty sure it's NOT going to have a sequel. I could be wrong, but usually if I buy a book I know if I'm walking into a series or not.

It was so frustrating.

As much as I love cliffhangers, something like that would annoy the heck out of me. There should be some sense of resolution, even if it isn't a happy one. And there's really no hope for a sequel? That's just wrong.

You can't work a story up to climax and then end it. There MUST be at least SOME snuggling afterwards.
