government shutdown

Well, I just got an official email from the NSF describing what will be happening to my funding and my contacts during the expected shutdown. Basically everything is frozen. No issuance of paychecks*, no paperwork processed, no email or phone contact with the NSF during this time. It certainly does suck ( Read more... )

Oh I guess this means my paycheck might be delayed in May then too? :| I haven't heard anything from the NSF or UCB (unsurprising!).

Well, since the NSF gives the money to UCB who then disburses to you, I imagine the NSF sent this email to UCB, who has just been slow (typical) to send it to you.

But couldn't that also mean that the feds paid Berkeley and then got out of the picture, so that now all he needs is money from Berkeley? In that case, he'd escape the shutdown. The Caltech people I was talking to last night were trying to get all their lab supply orders processed before tonight but didn't really have any idea whether their pay would be affected in any way.

The Geophysics lab at Princeton is a federal lab, so if there's a shutdown they lock the doors. Since it's a felony for federal employees to come to work, Courant may be flooded next week by scientists needing computational power.
