government shutdown
Well, I just got an official email from the NSF describing what will be happening to my funding and my contacts during the expected shutdown. Basically everything is frozen. No issuance of paychecks*, no paperwork processed, no email or phone contact with the NSF during this time. It certainly does suck.
*thankfully this is a block grant, so my "salary" is not per hour but rather allotted at the start of the grant and then issued in monthly increments. So even if the shutdown lasts through the end of the month, that only delays the issuance of my paycheck and doesn't preclude its issuance altogether like what official employees of the government face.
