Happy hour, sad beer

I met up with Christian at his university at 5:30 yesterday evening to join him and some grad students for a happy hour at a nearby brasserie. The group was all new people for me and included two Polish girls, who were very very surprised to hear someone else speak Polish. But don't some of these Belgian monk beers hit 7 or 8%?

Plenty go quite a bit above that. As high as 10-11% is pretty common.

This law sounds pretty strange. I mean I can think of beers of at least 8% from a number of different countries in the EU off the top of my head -- England, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy. I'd guess if I did some research, I could find some more.

I don't know if it really is a law. I just think she was making a mistake as to the reason why Warka Strong has become rebranded as Strong. It really seemed strange to me and they still seem to be selling the product, so all's well.
