Finally, after a week in our new apartment, we have internet installed! Two technicians came by today to install it and amazingly, you picked a two hour window for them to come in and they actually arrived within that window. It took them ~45 mins to install things because they had to replace the cable outlet and had trouble finding our apartment's ( Read more... )

it's one of the few bureaucratic things that has actually worked better in France than in the US.

well, actually, the week we've been in the apartment had not been all that productive for the thesis, since we've had to buy things, get things like renter's insurance, automatic bank transfer for paying the rent, switching utilities to our name, getting internet service, etc. It's much more work than in the US. However... yesterday I spent the day at home, cut off from the internet and other distractions, and I got a solid 6 hours or more of work done. Today, I got an hour in before the technicians came and then we made an IKEA trip and now dinner and then it'll be 9pm by the time everything's done :-{. I'm still going to squeeze in another hour before relaxing, however, since I've got something close to finished, so it's a very attainable goal.
