Border Laptop searches

In an update to a disheartening turn of legal events two months ago, Senators Russ Feingold and Patrick Leahy have now begun pushing against US Customs and Border Protection to not search laptops and other electronic devices of without reasonable suspicion. I agree. I don't think most people even realize that, under the government's current interpretation of the law, they can do whatever the hell they want to your property when you enter the United States, even if you are a citizen and without any probable cause (much less a search warrant).

when I told people at the REU they didn't believe me. But it's there! Christian removed lots of his laptop content before leaving for Mexico and I will likely wipe my laptop fairly clean when I leave for England in a week.

It's interesting how Feingold's name comes up whenever there's an issue I am interested in. He is by far my favorite senator.
