Jeez! A white Hyundai Element just zipped down San Pablo going at least 100 mph. It's the fastest I've ever seen anyone go on that street. A police car was pursuing it and had it's sirens on for just a second, but then decided to turn them off because it was clear the person had no intention of stopping and it was really late to make so much racket ( Read more... )

yes, it's odd. Especially because the police would constantly know where it is from other drivers shrieking "Gah! That's the most hideously boxy car I've ever seen!"

Police chases are stupid and a threat to public safety. Police should only be allowed to chase someone if they are suspected of having killed someone. Otherwise you just open the door for an innocent pedestrian or driver to be killed by the chaser or the chasee, for no reason. In other words, the expected value of the chase is negative unless the person you're chasing killed someone.

well, the police cars primarily were pursuing the vehicle 20mph slower than the vehicle was going. I think they were intent on not endangering other drivers, but they were going to form a net to block off the driver.
