Title: You’re Guaranteed To Run This Town 23/?
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Adam has the problem that he dates all the wrong guys, and it seems that it’s going to happen all over again when he meets Kris - a young punk who’s really just a softie under all the leather and false confidence.
Warnings: Cussing, teasing, talk about sex
Notes: Just so there's no confusion, this starts about two weeks or so after Leila's visit. And there's wayyy too many ideas for this running around in my head that, it's probably going to end up an obscene length like everything else I try to write. :/
“Kris?” Adam listened through the apartment, trying to see if he could hear Kris anywhere. Nothing. Hmm… maybe Tommy picked him up and I didn’t get the message yet. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, setting it on the table along with the grocery bags bunched up on his arms, and glanced around to make sure Kris hadn’t left a message on the fridge or anything.
He frowned when he didn’t see anything, indicating that Kris either was still there or that he left. Don’t panic, just… he could be asleep somewhere or something, or he just forgot. He ran a hand through his hair and walked back to the bed room, peeking in through the open door.
“Kris?” Adam walked further in to the room, feeling a little more relieved when he saw Kris on the bed, but a different kind of panic setting in when he saw how Kris is curled up, arms wrapped around his legs, trembling slightly. “Kris, what’s wrong?”
Kris shook his head, drawing in a deep, quivering breath. “Nothing, it’s nothing…” He looked up, his smile a little unsteady. “I’m fine.”
Adam frowned; settling on the bed beside Kris, pulling him into his side gently, and feeling Kris relax just a little. “Come on…” He pressed a soft kiss to Kris’ cheek. “Tell me.”
The tension in Kris’ shoulders lessened another fraction before Kris sucked in a breath, closed his eyes, and started.
“I… I was just thinking, and… I remembered the other night, with Leila…” He smiled slightly before going back to that blank slate again. “And, all the sudden I was remembering… Arkansas, before…” His eyes opened again, a sad and lost look in those brown orbs that Adam hated to see. He squeezed Kris’ shoulder a little tighter. “I… I miss it there, sometimes. Just…” He bit into his bottom lip, looking younger than Adam had ever seen him. “I wish I could just go back and see them and I-I can’t…”
Kris’ voice cracked and he just, broke apart, falling into Adam and sobbing. Adam’s heart felt like it was breaking in his chest, watching Kris. Even with his fingers digging deep into Adam’s shoulders to hold on, Adam wasn’t ever going to let Kris go, just hold on and try to let him know he was there for him, always, that all of them were.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when Kris was finally calming down, gulping down mouthfuls of air and his hands relaxing, fingers flexing as he leaned away from Adam. “Fuck…” He murmured, bringing a hand up to rub harshly at the tear-tracks on his cheeks, grimacing when Adam batted his hand away and lightly brushed them away. “I’m… I’m sorry. I…” He pouted, his lip wobbling, making Adam’s heart thump painfully in his chest. “I can’t… I hate being like this… I hate being… broken and…”
Adam pressed his thumb against Kris’ lips, stopping him. “Shh. You’re not, you’re okay.” He leaned down, pressing their lips together gently. “You’re perfect to me.” He brushed a hand through his hair. “You’re not broken; you’re amazing and beautiful…”
Kris pulled away shaking his head. “If I’m so perfect then…” His voice broke again and he bit into his lip, dropping his head onto Adam’s shoulder. “Then why did they leave me…”
Adam flinched inwardly, brushing a hand over Kris’ face. That’s a very fucking good question. He let out a breath, curling his fingers lightly in Kris’ hair, massaging his scalp lightly. “I don’t know, babe…” Adam pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his lips, feeling Kris shudder along with a sharp intake of breath. “I do know that everyone out here still cares for you, will still care for you, no matter what you do. We’ll all still love you and stay with you, no matter what.”
Kris let out a sharp breath, shuddering in Adam’s arms, tucking his face back into Adam’s shoulder. I wish… I could help him somehow… Whatever relationship he had with his family before all of that must’ve been great, how he’s breaking up over it still. He frowned. Maybe… when he gets past all of this a little more, he can go back and at least try to reconcile with them…
“I think…” Kris sniffled and pulled back, still in Adam’s loose grip, a hand fisted in Adam’s shirt. “I think I…” He swallowed and looked up at Adam, his eyelashes still laced with tears, eyes red and shimmering still. Adam thought if he had to watch Kris look as sad as he did for one more second he was just going to die completely, all happy memories gone in one moment because… it was just so heartbreaking.
He leaned in, instead, taking Kris’ mouth in a soft, leisurely kiss, trying to express everything he felt in it. Kris melted in his arms, his hand relaxing and both circling his waist, pulling himself up closer into Adam’s lap and changing the angle of the kiss completely. Adam tilted his head up, allowing Kris to take over, giving up everything to him with it.
Moments later Kris pulled back, licking his lips and the sad, dejected look gone, a thoughtful one in its place. “I think I want to… move on.” He smiled softly at the confused look Adam gave him. He shifted his hips a little with even more of a grin. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while and…” His smile faded a little and he relaxed into him, arms curled lightly around Adam’s neck now. “I want to move on past… just, rubbing off against each other.”
Oh. Adam’s brain stopped working for a moment, overheating with the possibilities of that. He’d promised himself, even before they’d gotten to any kind of a sexual relationship - aside from the first, obviously - that he’d let Kris call all the shots. What they’d do, when they’d do it. It was a little difficult at first to think that but, he could shelf his more dominant preference until Kris was ready. And, now that they were moving on, he had to stop himself from just turning them over and wrecking Kris right then and there.
He licked his lips slowly, shivering as he watched Kris trace the path of his tongue with his eyes, the rich brown color darkening every second. “So… um… what-what do you have in mind?”
Those brown eyes flicked back up to meet his before that smirk came back. “I was thinking blowjobs.”
Eep!
…And that would be the sound of his brain just rolling over and dying from the absolutely destructive hotness of that image.
Of course they didn’t start right away, Adam knew that wasn't going to happen.
The problem in this, was that Kris was a complete tease.
Adam would be on stage, trying to perform and stay in time with everything, and he’d look down at Kris for a moment and catch him licking the mouth of his beer bottle with a smirk, lips curling around it tightly, cheeks hallowing with suction and he’d have to make-up for how he stumbled over the words quickly and glare at Kris’ answering grin later.
“You are terrible…” Adam grumbled as soon as he settled in next to Kris in the booth.
Kris beamed at him and licked along Adam’s pulse line, making him shudder all over. “You like it.” He nipped at Adam’s ear before pulling back with a giggle. “Sorry, can’t help it. It’s too tempting.”
Adam pouted at him, whining when Kris leaned up to kiss his bottom lip, making him pull away with more giggling. At least he’s feeling better. He pulled Kris into his side and settled his chin on Kris’ head, mussing up his hair with a playful hum. That’s all that matters, really.
“Mmm, I like this.” Kris shifted, getting as close to Adam as he could without climbing into his lap. “I wish everyday could be like this.”
He heard the unspoken part of it; without Kris having a flashback or a panic attack or any kind of run in with his past. He squeezed Kris tight, tilting his head down as he turned Kris’ head up at press a soft kiss to his lips. “Yeah.” He murmured, the words getting lost in Kris’ mouth. “It will be, I know it.”
Kris grinned, brushing his hair out of his face as he leaned up for another kiss, and then another, and another.
“Yes, um… Leila?” Kris bit onto his tongue for a moment, willing himself not to say anything stupid and not just hang up at the sound of the other woman’s voice.
“Oh, Kris, right? What’s going on? Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, just…” He swallowed. “I wanted to talk to you about something. Some… advice?” He grimaced at himself. “I… don’t really… I can’t really think of anyone else to ask about this.”
“Oh.” Leila’s tone changed slightly and Kris’ stomach dropped. “Really? Is it something about Adam?”
What? Oh! “Oh, no, no. Everything with Adam’s fine it’s… something else, actually.” Ugh, this was a stupid idea. Why am I even thinking of doing this? I know I can’t handle it now, what makes me think I’m going to be able to later?
The least I can do is talk to her… She could have some of an idea to help. You never know…
“I see.” Leila hummed, a rustling sound of something in the background bleeding through along with it, then she spoke up again. “I can see you tomorrow during my lunch break, but I don’t have that much time so you could meet me at my office?”
It’d be better than in public. “Yeah, that sounds great.” He hesitated for a moment, grimacing at himself and throwing the hem of his shirt away into his thigh, tucking his free hand under his arms to stop from playing with it again. “Thanks for this. I…”
Leila chuckled softly when he trailed off, trying to figure out what to say without giving everything away. Rather do that in person… “It’s no problem. Adam told me you had some issues with your family and I figured you could at the least use someone to talk it out with. You can get the address from Adam, its room two-oh-three.”
Kris blinked slightly and bobbed his head, then rolled his eyes at himself. “Okay, thanks again.”
There was a pause, before Leila’s voice took a tone he could only think of as ‘motherly’. “Whatever this is about, Kris, I’m sure in the end it’ll work out fine.” I doubt fine is exactly how this is going to end, but alright. “You just need to not worry about it, the more you do the more it’s going to seem like anything ending up alright is impossible.” There was another pause, and more rustling in the background, then Leila was back. “I’m sorry Kris, but I have an appointment now. I’ll see you tomorrow, tell Adam…”
They said their goodbyes, and, surprisingly, Kris did feel better, lighter for some reason. He looked up across the parking lot behind the warehouse, pouting when he didn’t see Adam. I figured he’d be here by now…
“Who was that?” Tommy leaned out the doorway, cigarette in his mouth, lighter in his hand. “I thought it was Adam, which is why I was waiting because…” He grimaced. “Hearing you talk with him is like hearing my little brother have phone sex, which is disturbing.” Kris smiled slightly, watching Tommy lean back against the wall, the click of the lighter melting together with his words. He paused a moment, taking a drag from the cigarette and glancing over at him. “But, that didn’t sound like how you’d talk to Adam so…”
Kris shrugged, feeling himself flushing a little. “It, uh, it was just his mom, Tommy.” He kept his eyes on the parking lot, ignoring the blank stare he was getting from his friend. “No big deal.”
“Oh yes big deal.” Tommy shoved his lighter into his jacket pocket and turned Kris to face him. “Dude, you didn’t tell me that you’d met his parents.”
“I didn’t.” Kris blurted then grimaced and looked to the ground. “Just… Just Leila.”
“Leila?” Oh no… Kris glanced up at Tommy, seeing a wide, happy, proud smile around the cigarette in his mouth. “First name basis, huh? So, I take it everything went well?”
“Um… Yeah, kind of.” He shrugged his shoulders out of Tommy’s hands and fell back against the wall. “I, um, yeah.” Ugh, I sound like a moron… Just, just stop talking now, please. Mouth, never move again.
Tommy chuckled and clapped him on the shoulder. “You have no reason to be all embarrassed, Kris. This is a good thing.” He squeezed slightly before pulling away, winking at Kris as he took another drag from the cigarette. “Feels good to be in a real relationship, doesn’t it?”
Kris grinned automatically, he couldn’t help it. Tommy laughed before finishing up the cigarette and stomping it out against the cement and his sneaker. “I’m sure Adam’ll be here soon, so I’m just going to head back in.” He pulled Kris into a hug, squeezing him tight for a moment before letting go and smiling at him. “I’ll see you soon, yeah? We can all hang out sometime.”
“Yeah.” Kris bobbed his head, grinning right back at his friend. “You, me and Alli; we’ll figure something out.”
“And Adam.” Tommy chuckled, nudging Kris’ arm with his playfully. “He’s invited, too. Anytime.” Tommy glanced up, his silly smile shifting into a smirk. “And speak of the devil, he’s here, I best be going.”
Kris turned, and felt a giant, beaming grin break out across his face, his cheeks hurting with the intensity of it, but he couldn’t care, because there was Adam, smiling. That smile all for him, and those blue eyes all his, and the tall, tall, every tall inch of Adam all his. He made a happy noise - that he was going to ignore as well as he could, because there was no way it came out of him, nuh uh - and ran full speed into Adam, nearly bowling him over into the car, and coiled his entire body around Adam’s tall, freckled frame. “Yay.”
Adam let out a startled laugh, combing his fingers through Kris’ hair, tugging back to press a soft kiss to Kris’ forehead. “Miss me?” Kris hummed, happy and buzzing and ready to be cuddled and more, so much more. “Kay, let’s get home then, shall we?”
Kris felt a delighted shiver ripple up his spine. Home, it… kind of is my home now. I haven’t been at Tommy’s for weeks. And most of my stuffs at Adam’s… Kris paused, settling back against the car seat as Adam was climbing in on the driver’s side. So… are we, living together? Hmm… He glanced over to Adam. I guess I could ask. But then… if we aren’t and he thinks it’s too soon he could kick me out.
He felt himself pouting, turning back to look out the window when Adam glanced at him. No, I won’t ask. Not for a while anyway. It’s not that big of a deal anyway. As long as Adam doesn’t have a problem with it, I don’t and… He let out a breath, watching as a small cloud of fog inflated against the window, deflating with an inhale. I like it there… it’s safe. Even without Adam there, it’s safe for me, a sanctuary…
Kris startled when he felt something squeezing his knee, looking down and up an incredibly freckled arm to Adam, who was smiling at him, all happy and loving. And… now, wherever Adam is… it’s a safe place for me, too.
